Job Summary
The main function of an accountant is to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within an organization. A typical accountant is responsible for analyzing and communicating financial information for clients.
This is a backfill position supporting BAU, day-to-day operations within a team of approximately 20 people. The role involves a 2-week training period and offers a collaborative, close-knit team setting with growth opportunities. The contractor will have access to customer data and will spend approximately 15 minutes per day in a daily huddle, with all interactions being internal.
Key Responsibilities
- Process mutual fund trades and settlements.
- Investigate and resolve transaction breaks and discrepancies.
- Handle FundSERV transactions and money movements.
- Use Excel macros to support operational processes.
- Provide customer service and respond to inquiries.
- Maintain compliance with operational and regulatory procedures.
- Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
- Develop, implement, modify,
and document recordkeeping and accounting systems.
- Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting, or other tax requirements.

Preferred Skills
- Trade settlements experience
- CSC (Canadian Securities Course)
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related financial discipline required
- An advanced degree in a financial discipline is preferred
- University graduate
Required Experience
- 2 3 years of experience in banking or financial services
- 2 4 years of financial and/or accounting experience required
- Banking, financial, or mutual funds operations background preferred; high attention to detail and accuracy required given high-risk compliance environment; strong communication skills required as some communication will be involved over the phone
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Trade settlements background
