Experienced Cylindrical Grinder / Crankshaft Machinist

Pay: C$21–40/hour, based on demonstrated crankshaft-grinding experience
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m
Bring your crankshaft-grinding experience to an established Edmonton engine machine shop. TRAC Engine Services is seeking an experienced machinist who can independently set up, grind, and inspect crankshafts after familiarization with our equipment and shop procedures.
You will work alongside other experienced technicians in our crankshaft remanufacturing department, supporting heavy-duty diesel and natural gas engine customers across Western Canada.
What you’ll work on
Your primary responsibility will be crankshaft grinding, from initial inspection and machine setup through finished measurement and quality checks.
- Conduct magnetic particle inspections and other methods of NDT testing on components
- Independently set up and operate a crankshaft grinder to meet job specifications.
- Grind main and connecting-rod journals to specified dimensions and finish requirements.
- Balance crankshafts on a Schenck dynamic rotor balancing machine
- Check and document finished dimensions and condition using precision measuring instruments.
- Identify dimensional issues and resolve them before releasing work.
- Safely handle crankshafts using overhead cranes and appropriate rigging.
- Perform routine equipment care and maintain an organized work area.
Experience you’ll bring
- Proven hands-on experience independently setting up and operating cylindrical grinding equipment.
- Ability to take a crankshaft through setup, grinding, and final inspection without step-by-step instruction.
- Solid precision measurement skills, including micrometers and dial indicators.
- Ability to interpret job specifications and assess whether finished work meets requirements.
- Prior training and demonstrated safe practices relevant to grinding equipment, abrasive-wheel handling, and overhead crane and rigging operations.
- Careful workmanship,
sound mechanical judgment, and clear communication with coworkers.
We provide orientation to our machine, site safety requirements, and quality procedures, followed by confirmation of readiness for independent work. Applicants should already have the core cylindrical grinding skills needed for this position.
