Eklan helps multilingual healthcare professionals communicate with clarity, confidence and authority at work. Our learners include nurses and doctors who bring valuable clinical knowledge and experience but sometimes struggle to express that expertise in English under pressure.
Through realistic simulations, personalized practice and live coaching, we help them prepare for the conversations their work demands—from patient assessments and handovers to discussions with colleagues and concerned families.
We are recruiting 20 Toronto-based Healthcare Educatorswho can bring clinical experience, creativity and energy to our teaching team.
The opportunity
Eklan already has an established curriculum, learning materials and teaching standards. Your role will be to bring these resources to life through engaging teaching, thoughtful feedback and practice that reflects each learner’s professional responsibilities.
You will help learners express their clinical reasoning, explain information clearly and respond more confidently in challenging workplace conversations. You will also contribute observations and ideas that help us improve our existing materials and teaching approach.
This is a part-time role with flexible hours. You can select teaching times that fit your schedule, subject to learner availability. Once sessions are agreed, reliable attendance and consistent follow-through are essential.
What you will do
- Deliver engaging lessons and live simulations using Eklan’s existing curriculum and teaching standards.
- Adapt activities to each learner’s clinical background, specialty, communication goals and level of English.
- Roleplay patients, colleagues, physicians or family members to create realistic workplace conversations.
- Help learners organize their thoughts, explain their reasoning and communicate clearly under pressure.
- Provide constructive feedback on professional terminology, clarity, phrasing, listening and delivery.
- Create a supportive environment where learners feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and practising again.
- Track progress, maintain concise lesson notes and identify priorities for follow-up practice.
- Notice when learners are struggling or disengaging and coordinate with the Eklan team to provide appropriate support.
- Suggest creative improvements to learning activities while maintaining our shared teaching standards.
- Participate in educator onboarding and teaching reviews to support consistent quality across sessions.
What we are looking for
- A medical or nursing background, including practical experience working as a nurse or medical doctor.
- Currently based in Toronto.
- Strong spoken and written English, with the ability to explain clinical concepts clearly.
- A patient,
empathetic approach to supporting professionals who are communicating in an additional language.
- Creativity, enthusiasm and the ability to make practice engaging and relevant.
- Robust preparation, organization and reliability.
- Comfort using video conferencing and digital learning tools.
- Willingness to follow an established curriculum, receive feedback and continually improve your teaching.
Preferred experience
- Clinical experience in Canada, the United States, Australia or New Zealand.
- Teaching, precepting, mentoring or coaching healthcare professionals.
- Supporting internationally educated nurses, doctors or other multilingual learners.
- Facilitating simulations, roleplays or constructive debriefing.
- Strong spoken and written English, with the ability to explain clinical concepts clearly.
- A patient, empathetic approach to supporting professionals who are communicating in an additional language.
Formal teaching experience is helpful. Clinicians with strong communication skills and a demonstrated interest in developing others are also encouraged to apply.
