Bearcan Group is looking for an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team in Richibucto, Recent Brunswick.
This position will focus primarily on commercial and multi-unit residential construction projects. We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of construction who can take ownership of the estimating process - from reviewing drawings and completing take-offs to obtaining trade pricing and preparing competitive project estimates.
The Estimator will work closely with management, project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and other project partners from early budgeting through tender and project handoff.
What You'll Do
· Review architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings and specifications.
· Complete detailed quantity take-offs.
· Prepare conceptual budgets, preliminary estimates, and detailed tender estimates.
· Estimate labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and general project costs.
· Solicit quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
· Review and compare subcontractor quotations for scope, exclusions, gaps, and pricing discrepancies.
· Prepare subcontractor bid packages and ensure adequate trade coverage.
· Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and potential cost-saving opportunities.
· Assist with value engineering and recommend alternative materials or construction methods where appropriate.
· Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as required.
· Prepare tender submissions and support the overall bidding process.
· Maintain accurate estimating files, historical pricing, and subcontractor information.
· Work closely with the project management team to transition successful bids into construction.
· Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, subcontractor scopes, risks,
and opportunities to the project team.
· Assist with pricing change orders and additional work when required.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and industry partners.
What We're Looking For
· Previous construction estimating experience, preferably involving commercial and/or multi-unit residential projects.
· Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and trade scopes.
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
· Experience completing quantity take-offs and developing construction budgets.
· Ability to independently review subcontractor quotations and identify missing or incomplete scopes.
· Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and estimating/take-off software.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tender deadlines.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related field is an asset; equivalent construction industry experience will also be considered.
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who understands how buildings actually go together, not simply someone who can enter quantities into estimating software.
The successful candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of an estimate, asking the right questions, identifying potential issues before they become costly problems, and working with subcontractors and suppliers to develop accurate and competitive pricing.
Experience:
- construction: 3 years (preferred)
- Construction estimating: 5 years (required)
Language:
- English (required)
Work Location: In person
