The Automotive Apprentice supports licensed Automotive Service Technicians in the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of customer vehicles while developing the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required to become a licensed technician.

Working in a fast-paced dealership environment, the Automotive Apprentice performs routine maintenance and entry-level repairs, assists with more complex diagnostic and repair work, and follows manufacturer procedures and dealership standards. The apprentice is expected to demonstrate a robust commitment to safety, quality workmanship, productivity, and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including oil and filter changes, tire rotations, inspections, fluid services, and other scheduled maintenance.
- Assist licensed technicians with diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle systems.
- Complete assigned repairs accurately and efficiently under the supervision of a licensed technician.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and identify maintenance or repair requirements.
- Use diagnostic equipment, shop tools, and service information correctly and safely.
- Follow manufacturer repair procedures, technical specifications, and dealership processes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and communicate findings to the supervising technician or Service Advisor.
- Keep the assigned work area, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Follow all dealership health and safety policies,



including proper handling of hazardous materials and use of personal protective equipment.
- Participate in manufacturer, dealership, and apprenticeship training programs to continuously develop technical skills.
- Protect customer vehicles and dealership property while maintaining a professional standard of care.
- Support the service department in achieving productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction objectives.

Qualifications

- Registered Automotive Service Technician apprentice or eligible to register in an apprenticeship program.
- Valid driver's licence with an acceptable driving record.
- Basic knowledge of automotive systems, maintenance, and repair procedures.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and automotive service equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements associated with automotive service work.
