Job Title: Utility Design Technologist

Location: Toronto, Canada

Role: Utility Design Technologist

Responsibilities:

- Review circulation packages, engineering drawings, and utility design submissions received from Toronto Public Utilities Coordinating Committee (TPUCC) members and non-members.
- Assess proposed third-party work for potential conflicts with existing and future Hydro infrastructure.
- Analyze utility relocations, municipal road projects, telecommunications, gas, water, sewer, and transportation-related designs.
- Provide technical comments, circulation responses, and conflict identification reports to project stakeholders.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of assessments and circulation responses completed by internal teams and external contractors.
- Ensure all reviews are completed within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Coordinate review activities with contractors, consultants, municipalities, and utility stakeholders.




- Respond to technical inquiries from clients and project proponents regarding circulation comments and utility conflicts.
- Track, monitor, and manage multiple concurrent review requests through various project management systems.
- Support permit coordination activities and utility clearance processes.
- Maintain accurate records of circulation responses, conflict assessments, and project communications.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance review efficiency and quality.

Skills & Qualification

- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience reviewing utility designs, municipal engineering drawings, or infrastructure plans.
- Experience using GIS platforms such as G/Technology, ArcGIS.
- Strong understanding of underground and above-ground utility infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Canadian engineering practices, standards, and utility coordination requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, design profiles, cross-sections, and utility plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage high-volume workloads and strict deadlines.
- Familiarity with Ontario One Call locate request processes and utility locate regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Previous Canadian utility, municipal, or infrastructure project experience.
- Knowledge of City of Toronto Municipal Consent Requirement (Preferred)

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Toronto, ON (Toronto District)
