About the Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, banking, cash management, and financial operations of a diversified group of companies. Reporting directly to the SVP, Finance, this role serves as a strategic partner to the finance function, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, supporting business decision-making, and driving continuous improvements across finance processes, systems, and controls.

The successful candidate will possess robust technical accounting expertise, exceptional analytical skills, advanced systems knowledge, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset. This individual will play a critical role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, banking operations, and the implementation of scalable finance processes designed to support organizational growth.

This role requires a high degree of business acumen, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively across departments in a fast-paced and evolving environment. Occasional overtime may be required during peak reporting periods.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close Process

- Oversee and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Review and analyze financial results, identifying trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
- Prepare and review monthly management reporting packages for executive leadership.
- Respond to management inquiries and provide detailed financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, supporting schedules, and accounting records.
- Prepare and review account reconciliations and supporting working papers.
- Support and coordinate external audits, tax engagements, and other professional service providers.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and financial governance standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, data quality, and operational efficiency through automation and technological enhancements.
- Assist in developing and implementing finance policies, procedures, and best practices across the organization.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Analysis

- Support the development and maintenance of annual budgets and periodic forecasts across multiple entities.
- Partner with department leaders to develop realistic and actionable budgets.
- Perform variance analysis comparing actual results to budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to support strategic initiatives and operational planning.
- Assist with financial modelling, scenario planning, and business case development.
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital planning activities.
- Monitor key business drivers and communicate emerging financial risks or opportunities.





Accounts Payable Oversight & Expense Management

- Provide overall ownership and strategic oversight of the Accounts Payable function.
- Lead the development and implementation of a centralized invoice management process.
- Establish and oversee a dedicated Accounts Payable workflow, including administration of a centralized AP mailbox for all vendor invoices.
- Ensure all invoices are tracked, logged, monitored, and processed in accordance with company policies and approval requirements.
- Oversee invoice routing, coding, approvals, and payment processing through approved workflows and finance systems.
- Collaborate with department leaders to ensure vendor expenditures align with approved budgets.
- Monitor vendor activity and investigate discrepancies, unusual spending patterns, duplicate invoices, and variances from approved budgets.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of vendor records, payment terms, and supporting documentation.
- Review AP aging reports and provide expected payment schedules to support cash flow forecasting.
- Support the development and maintenance of spend reporting and budget-to-actual analysis at the vendor and departmental level.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing AP efficiency through process redesign, automation, and system enhancements.

Accounts Receivable & Cash Management

- Oversee accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely collections and accurate revenue recording.
- Monitor aging reports and collaborate with operational teams regarding overdue balances.
- Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of all cash receipts.
- Maintain effective controls over customer billing, collections, and cash application processes.
- Support efforts to improve cash conversion cycles and working capital management.

Banking, Treasury & Liquidity Management

- Lead and oversee day-to-day banking operations across all entities.
- Monitor daily cash positions and maintain visibility into current and projected liquidity requirements.
- Review and authorize EFTs, wire transfers, and banking transactions in accordance with delegated signing authority policies.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of bank reconciliations.
- Manage relationships with financial institutions and banking partners.
- Support debt management, lender reporting requirements, and treasury-related initiatives.
- Escalate liquidity concerns, forecast variances, and banking risks to the SVP, Finance.
- Support the implementation of banking controls, payment security protocols, and fraud prevention measures.

Systems, Process Improvement & Technology

- Champion the effective use of NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office, Power BI, AI tools, and other finance technologies.




- Lead process improvement initiatives designed to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Support ERP implementation projects, workflow development, automation initiatives, and systems integrations.
- Evaluate current finance processes and recommend process redesign opportunities.
- Leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve reporting, forecasting, reconciliations, and administrative efficiency.
- Develop documentation for key finance processes, procedures, and internal controls.

Leadership & Team Development

- Support and mentor members of the finance team.
- Provide direction and oversight for accounting, banking, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, technology, and executive leadership teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Assist in organizational planning and future-state finance structure development.
- Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

- CPA designation and/or MBA required.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership, management, or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting practices, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, financial modelling, and reporting.
- Significant experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, and modern ERP systems.
- Experience overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, banking, and cash management functions.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and variance reporting.
- High level of comfort with technology, automation, and AI-enabled productivity tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

- Experience in financial services, mortgage lending, investment management, real estate, or multi-entity organizations.
- Experience leading ERP implementations or finance transformation projects.
- Experience designing and implementing automated workflows and process improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of Power BI, SQL, or other data analytics tools.
