Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 321-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
The Manager of Facilities, Operations & Maintenance is currently seeking multiple casual Groundskeepers. Performs general campus grounds maintenance of regional roads, walkways, building entrances, including winter maintenance activities and spring, summer, and fall duties such as grass cutting, weeding, and general exterior grounds maintenance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Winter Maintenance:
- Operates small lawn tractor/loader/snow removal equipment.
- Operates pickup truck with sander/salting equipment, on all roadways and parking lots.
- Using hand shovels and/or snow blower, removes snow from all walkways and building entrances/exits.
- Erects temporary snow fences where/when required.
- Load/ apply sand/salt and de-icing aggregate to equipment and entrances and walkways.
- During inclement winter weather, incumbents are required to work varied hours and shifts as snow removal operations become priority.
Year-Round/Seasonal Maintenance:
- Performs general campus grounds maintenance during spring, summer, and fall, such as grass cutting,
weeding/gardening/pruning/leaf removal.
- Maintains flower beds, shrubs, and landscaped areas, ensuring clean and safe grounds around buildings and walkways.
Other general campus maintenance tasks such as garbage collection, parking lot maintenance, and beach maintenance and repairs.

Equipment Maintenance:
- Completes circle check of all power equipment including checking fluid levels, pressures and safety equipment.
- Completes routine preventative maintenance, and minor repairs/adjustments to equipment.
- Almost all work is performed outdoors. Scheduling work activities is very often determined by weather conditions.
- Managers have the right to assign additional duties and schedule alternate work locations based on operational requirements.
- Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc.) relevant to health and safety, security and potential risk hazards.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma - Required
- G Drivers License to operate pickup truck equipped with sand/salt. Note: member may be asked to operate snow removal equipment - Required
- Knowledge & experience in safe operation of landscaping equipment such as tractors, riding mower, and snow blowers.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of motorized equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in property management.
- Safe operation of all motorized equipment ie: Safe driving courses, clean abstract, driving awards.
- Written and verbal communication skills to complete reports, interact with customers, supply lists necessary for tasks, e-mail etc.
- Interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with others. Significant portion of work is done independently.
- Working from ladders.
- Physical coordination and dexterity when using tools in order to perform service work.
- Requires the ability to lift 60lbs.
- Exposure to extreme temperature (hot and cold), sometimes for prolonged periods.
- Basic computer skills i.e. email.
- Established procedures and routines. Most work in landscaping, gardening and general grounds maintenance is within established procedures and routines. Work is reviewed for completeness and quality.
- Job requires referring situations not covered by established methods and procedures to the supervisor.
- Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
- Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude

- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
