Aspen Land Group Inc. is a small environmental consulting company located in Edmonton, Alberta, that has been providing consulting services to Alberta’s aggregate industry for more than 15 years.

As part of the continued growth of our technical services, Aspen is seeking a registered Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.

The successful candidate will provide professional oversight and sign-off for applicable land surveying work while working closely with Aspen’s existing technical team. The position will include a diverse combination of professional surveying, AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting, UAV operations and data processing, field surveys, and other geospatial and technical project work.

Aspen is interested in expanding the surveying services available to our existing clients. This position provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to play an important role in developing this area of our business while working within an established multidisciplinary consulting company. Please note that this is a leadership position. You will be responsible for establishing procedures and requirements for other field crews.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide skilled oversight, review and sign-off for land surveying work within the scope of an Alberta Land Surveyor.
- Prepare and review legal survey plans and associated survey documentation.
- Direct and supervise survey-related field work and drafting as required.
- Complete field surveys using appropriate survey equipment and methods.
- Prepare site plans, surfaces, cross-sections, profiles and material volume calculations using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Complete and/or assist with UAV flights and processing of UAV survey data.
- Work with GNSS data, coordinate systems, geospatial datasets and Alberta Township System.
- Work collaboratively with Aspen’s drafting technologists,



environmental professionals and engineers.
- Assist with technical drawings/figures, regulatory applications and other project deliverables.
- Develop and maintain efficient survey standards, procedures and workflows.
- Assist Aspen in identifying and developing opportunities to provide additional surveying services to existing and prospective clients.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Registered Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) in good standing and authorized to practice in Alberta.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a commissioned Alberta Land Surveyor.
- Demonstrated experience independently completing legal land surveys in Alberta and assuming professional responsibility for the resulting survey plans and deliverables.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and the preparation and review of survey-related drawings and plans.
- Strong understanding of geospatial data, coordinate systems and Alberta township systems.
- Fluent skills and competence using Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) and Adobe Professional.
- Knowledge of GIS software, Global Mapper, and Pix4D is considered an asset.
- Ability to independently organize and complete survey projects while working collaboratively with other technical professionals.
- Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.




- Willingness to work outdoors and travel out of town for short periods as required (max 5 days).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Positive attitude toward workplace health and safety.

The Following Would Be Considered Assets
- Experience providing surveying services to the aggregate, mining, environmental or related industries.
- Experience with UAV surveying, photogrammetry and/or aerial data acquisition.
- Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate.
- Experience with GIS, Global Mapper and/or Pix4D.
- Experience with Trimble Connect and TerraFlex.
- Strong Civil 3D drafting and surface-modelling capabilities.
- Experience with topographic surveys, volume surveys and construction-related surveying.
- Previous experience developing or growing a surveying service line or working within a multidisciplinary consulting company.
- Existing relationships within Alberta’s aggregate, mining, environmental, municipal or land-development industries.
