Salary Range

Band 14 (Min: $111,289, Control Point: $148,385, Max: $170,643). Placement within a salary band is typically up to Control Point based on skills, experience and internal equity. May place over Control Point in limited circumstances.

The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean provides day-to-day leadership for the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts. The Associate Dean works with faculty, staff and administration to coordinate planning, program development and review, budgeting, and evaluation of faculty; oversees scheduling; is responsible for ensuring appropriate academic standards; handles complaints, grievances and appeals; and performs other duties as required.

- A graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a discipline represented in the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts;
- Proven leadership ability as evidenced by a minimum of three years of experience in an administrative role (such as Department Chair, Program Coordinator, Director or Associate Dean) within a post-secondary institution;
- Outstanding teaching skills as evidenced by a minimum of five years of post-secondary teaching experience in a discipline represented by the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts;
- The ability to meet “Qualified to Teach” requirements in at least one department or program within the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts;
- A demonstrated record of creative and/or scholarly activity and a demonstrated ability to support creative and/or scholarly activity in the Faculty;

- Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities including: the ability to foster teamwork and facilitate collaborative working relationships; mediation skills; and the ability to build consensus among diverse groups;
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills, including computer competencies;
- Proven capacity to manage change and demonstrated ability to drive innovations from conception through to implementation;

- Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to present arguments clearly and effectively for a range of audiences;
- Demonstrated abilities that align with the Douglas College Core Competency Framework.

This regular full-time position is available starting May 1, 2027. Regular hours of work are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Travel between Douglas College’s campuses will be required. Travel for business may be required on occasion. The posting will remain open until filled with a first review date of October 30, 2026; we anticipate holding first-round interviews in early December.
