Blue Sky is seeking an individual to join the Retail Team as the Automated Pre-Roll Machine Operator in a permanent position.
The Automated
Pre-Roll Machine Operator is primarily responsible for operating the PreRoll-ER automated pre-roll machine and producing pre-rolls that consistently meet established quality, weight, and productivity standards. The position includes machine setup, operation, adjustment, routine troubleshooting, cleaning, and production documentation. We are looking for a highly motivated and detailed oriented individual to join our continually growing team. This is a full-time, on-site permanent position, Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm. Weekend and overtime shifts subject to availability.
Responsibilities:
Automated Pre-Roll Production
- Set up, operate, and monitor the PreRoll-ER automated pre-roll machine.
- Review production instructions and confirm the correct flower, cones, materials, and batch information before beginning production.
- Load cones and prepared flower into the machine while maintaining proper material flow.
- Adjust approved machine settings to achieve consistent fill weights, density, appearance, and production performance.
- Monitor the machine continuously for jams, cone-feeding issues, inconsistent filling, material bridging, or other production problems.
- Perform routine in-process weight and quality checks at the required frequency.
- Make minor operational adjustments and troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
- Escalate mechanical, electrical, or recurring performance issues to the Production Supervisor or Maintenance department.
- Remove defective units and document rejects, rework, waste, and production losses.
- Transfer completed pre-rolls to the appropriate finishing, closing, inspection, or packaging process.
- Complete production records accurately, including batch information, quantities produced, material usage, downtime, and yield.
- Reconcile flower, cones, finished units, rejects, and waste at the end of each production run.
- Perform product and format changeovers while preventing product or lot mix-ups.
Flower Milling and Material Preparation
- Operate approved milling or grinding equipment to prepare cannabis flower for pre-roll production.
- Inspect flower before milling and remove stems or unsuitable material in accordance with company procedures.
- Mill flower to the required particle-size range while avoiding excessive fines or over-processing.
- Screen, sift, or otherwise condition milled flower as required by the production specification.
- Blend or homogenize prepared flower when directed by the production instructions.
- Weigh, label, stage, and transfer milled flower using appropriate containers and material-handling procedures.
- Record pre-milling and post-milling weights, yields, losses, and batch information.
- Protect prepared flower from contamination, moisture changes, excessive exposure, and unauthorized access.
Cleaning and Equipment Care
- Clean and sanitize the PreRoll-ER machine, milling equipment, tools, containers, and surrounding production area.
- Complete line clearance and verify that materials from the previous product or batch have been removed.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative-maintenance tasks within the operator’s level of training.
- Inspect machine components for wear, damage, looseness, or product buildup.
- Report equipment damage, abnormal sounds, repeated jams, or declining performance promptly.
- Maintain an organized supply of cones, contact parts, tools, cleaning materials, and other production supplies.
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
- Follow approved standard operating procedures, production instructions, quality requirements, and workplace safety practices.
- Maintain accurate and legible production, cleaning, quality-control, and material-tracking records.
- Follow all requirements for personal protective equipment, hygiene, sanitation, and contamination control.
- Handle cannabis, finished products, and production waste in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Immediately report product-quality concerns, deviations, foreign material, contamination risks, or incorrect materials.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
- Participate in training, safety meetings, investigations, process improvements, and equipment trials when required.
- Assist with other production, packaging, or material-handling activities when operational needs require.
Qualifications:
- Acceptable results to a Criminal Record Check
- Previous experience operating automated production or packaging equipment is required.
- Direct experience operating a PreRoll-ER automated pre-roll machine is strongly preferred.
- Experience milling or preparing cannabis flower for pre-roll production is preferred.
- Experience in cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, natural-health-product, or another regulated manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to complete routine machine adjustments and basic troubleshooting.
- Ability to use scales, calculate yields, verify fill weights, and complete production reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize changes in machine performance or product quality.
- Ability to read and follow production instructions, specifications, and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to complete production records accurately and work with minimal supervision.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to work effectively as part of a production team.
- Punctual and able to reliably commute to facility
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Physical and Working Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive production tasks.
- Ability to safely lift and move production materials within company-established lifting limits, using assistance or lifting equipment when required.
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform detailed work with the hands.
- Ability to work around cannabis flower, plant particulate, production noise, cleaning agents, and strong odours.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, which may include gloves, protective clothing, safety footwear, hair restraints, eye protection, and respiratory protection.
Performance Expectations Performance in this position will be evaluated based on:
- Consistency of finished pre-roll weight and quality.
- Production throughput and equipment uptime.
- Flower yield and control of production losses.
- Accuracy and completeness of production records.
- Proper equipment setup, cleaning, and care.
- Compliance with safety, quality, and production procedures.
- Ability to identify and respond appropriately to equipment or product-quality issues.
