About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer, Manufacturing to join our dynamic team in Calgary. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated manufacturing and product testing systems that enhance our production capabilities. Your expertise will support our mission to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently and reliably.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead automation projects from initial concept through to final deployment, ensuring seamless integration, optimal performance, and continuous improvement. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical skills in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the growth and innovation of Ecolab’s manufacturing operations.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background and relevant experience in automation and manufacturing systems. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required. Proven experience in developing, troubleshooting, and commissioning PLC programs and HMI applications is essential.

Candidates should have hands-on experience with industrial or collaborative robots, servo-motion systems, and machine control technologies.



Familiarity with integrating complex automation components such as PLCs, robots, vision systems, sensors, safety devices, and industrial communication networks is critical. The ability to interpret electrical schematics, machine drawings, and control documentation is necessary.

Legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship is also required.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 9001 and Six Sigma, experience with CAD software like SolidWorks, and familiarity with manufacturing data systems and programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or SQL.

Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions to transform manual and semi-automated manufacturing processes into fully integrated systems.
- Create controls architecture, functional requirements, machine sequences, I/O layouts, and network strategies to ensure seamless integration of automation components.
- Program, troubleshoot, and commission PLCs, HMIs, servo-motion systems, and industrial or team-oriented robots to meet production specifications.
- Integrate various automation components including vision systems, sensors, safety devices, pneumatics, and test equipment to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
- Lead automation projects from initial concept through design, programming, testing, installation, validation, and final production hand-off.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation such as project proposals, specifications, SOPs, operating manuals, and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to optimize machine layouts, tooling, fixtures, and safety measures for manufacturability and reliability.
- Provide training to engineers, technicians, and operators on equipment operation,



programming, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
- Support ongoing production by diagnosing and resolving automation and control issues, improving equipment reliability and performance.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement strategies to enhance throughput, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure all automated equipment complies with safety, quality, documentation, and usability standards prior to production release.
