The Banquet Captain plays a key frontline leadership role in the successful planning and execution of catering events at WinSport.

The Banquet Captain acts as a primary operational contact, coordinating service staff, overseeing event setup and execution, monitoring food and beverage service, and responding to client and guest needs. The position provides hands-on leadership to frontline team members through clear direction, coaching, mentoring, and follow-up.

The Banquet Captain is also responsible for supporting event administration, equipment and inventory control, responsible alcohol service, event billing accuracy, and compliance with applicable health, safety, labour, and service standards. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound decisions and remain composed in a fast-paced event environment.

What you will be doing:

Event Coordination and Execution.

- Oversee the execution of assigned events and ensure they are delivered according to the event contract, event specifications, client expectations, and WinSport catering standards.
- Conduct pre-event checks to ensure rooms, service areas, equipment, food and beverage offerings, and staffing are properly prepared.
- Meet with clients or designated event contacts prior to or at the start of assigned events to confirm event details, equipment, service requirements, and special requests.
- Monitor event timelines and proactively address delays, changes, or operational issues.
- Ensure event setup, service, and breakdown are completed efficiently and to established standards.
- Coordinate the movement, setup, and storage of event equipment, supplies, and client materials.

Staffing and Team Leadership

- Provide frontline leadership and direction to catering team members during events.
- Work with the Assistant Manager to ensure appropriate staffing levels are in place for events.
- Participate in pre-event meetings and communicate event expectations, assignments, timelines, service standards, and special requirements to staff.
- Monitor staff productivity and redeploy team members as operational requirements change.
- Reinforce expectations regarding service standards, professional conduct, appearance, attendance, and performance.
- Support the training and onboarding of new catering employees.

Client and Guest Service

- Serve as a professional point of contact for clients and guests throughout assigned events.
- Ensure food, beverage, and service delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions, concerns, special requests, and service issues.
- Resolve issues within the scope of the position and escalate matters requiring management involvement.
- Maintain a visible and professional presence during events.
- Monitor guest conduct and take appropriate action to maintain a safe, welcoming, and professional environment.
- Share feedback and opportunities for improvement

Food and Beverage Service

- Oversee the delivery of food and beverage service according to event requirements and established WinSport standards.
- Monitor food presentation, replenishment, service timing, and cleanliness throughout events.
- Ensure food handling,



beverage service, sanitation, and presentation standards are maintained throughout the event.

Equipment and Inventory

- Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies required for events, including linens, plateware, glassware, cutlery, serving equipment, and beverage supplies.
- Report shortages, damage, loss, or maintenance requirements to the Assistant Manager of Catering.
- Coordinate the preparation, movement, and return of event equipment and supplies.
- Assist in sourcing or acquiring specialty items and equipment required for unique event needs as directed.

Event Billing and Administration

- Verify event details, including attendance, food and beverage requirements, and other billable services, against event documentation.
- Complete required event documentation, reports, checklists, and feedback.
- Assist with tracking event labour, equipment usage, and other operational information as required.

Health, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance

- Ensure all assigned events comply with applicable health, safety, food handling, sanitation, responsible alcohol service, and labour standards.
- Report workplace injuries, incidents, hazards, equipment damage, and other safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to incidents or operational concerns.

Communication and Departmental Coordination.

- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure client and guest expectations are met.
- Participate in event planning meetings and operational briefings as required.
- Provide post-event feedback to the Assistant Manager of Catering regarding staffing, service, equipment, client satisfaction, and operational performance.

What you bring:

Education and Experience

- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in catering, banquet, hospitality, food and beverage, or a related service workplace.
- Minimum 1 year of previous leadership, supervisory, or lead-hand experience is preferred.
- Proven customer service experience in a hospitality or service environment.
- Experience working weddings, corporate functions, banquets, meetings, sporting events, or large-scale functions is an asset.

Certifications

- ProServe Certification or equivalent responsible alcohol service certification.
- Food safety certification such as FoodSafe, ServSafe, or equivalent.
- Additional hospitality, food and beverage, event management, or safety certifications are considered an asset.




- Class 5 Driver's Licence is required where applicable to operational needs.

- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying event schedules.
- Ability to work extended shifts and long hours during events and peak periods.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Professional appearance and conduct appropriate for a guest-facing hospitality environment.

You will be:

- Working conditions may include hot, cold, indoor, outdoor, and other variable environments.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, bend, reach, and climb as required during event setup and breakdown.
- Must have full mobility and functional use of shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers.
- Must be able to safely move and handle catering equipment, supplies, tables, chairs, and other event-related materials.
- Must be able to work extended shifts as required by event schedules.
