Job Title: Business Intelligence Analyst – Intermediate
Location: Edmonton, AB – Remote
Employment Type: Contract – 7.5 Months Initial, with possible 6-month extension
Approved Hours: 1,036.75 hours / 36.25 hours per week
Travel: Possible travel up to 15% of total contract hours
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst – Intermediate to support data strategy and analytics initiatives through the development of high-quality data products, dashboards, analytical models, and actionable business insights.
The successful candidate will combine Power BI, DAX, SQL, data analysis, data modeling, statistical analysis, and data storytelling to transform complex datasets into insights that support strategic planning and decision-making across business and government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop business intelligence solutions that address internal and external client needs.
- Design and deliver analytical data products using diverse and complex datasets.
- Analyze data and produce actionable insights, trends, metrics, and outcomes.
- Gather, document, and translate business requirements into end-to-end BI solutions.
- Develop data models, dashboards, reports, KPIs, and custom visualizations using Power BI.
- Perform data quality reviews, statistical analysis, data mining, and analytical modeling.
- Combine quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources to generate meaningful business insights.
- Develop advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and time-intelligence solutions.
- Use SQL for data transformation, querying, and analytical processing.
- Capture and maintain business and technical metadata for data products.
- Present data-driven findings and insights to executives, business users, and other stakeholders.
- Support strategic decision-making and business planning through data analysis and storytelling.
- Work collaboratively within multi-vendor and cross-functional environments.
- Identify and escalate project risks, data issues, and other concerns as appropriate.
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; equivalent education may be considered.
- 15+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and optimizing advanced Power BI solutions using complex or regulated datasets.
- 15+ years of experience using Power BI visualization techniques and features for data storytelling.
- 15+ years analyzing large and complex datasets for trend analysis, predictive analytics, and forecasting using Power BI and Azure analytics tools.
- 15+ years presenting and communicating data-driven insights to executives and business users within government environments.
- 15+ years developing and understanding requirements for analytical projects.
- 15+ years translating business requirements into analytical solutions and delivering end-to-end BI solutions.
- 15+ years combining raw data from multiple data sources and domains.
- 15+ years working directly with clients and explaining complex data concepts clearly.
- 15+ years developing advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and time-intelligence functionality in Power BI.
- 13+ years of hands-on SQL experience for data transformation, querying, and analytical processing in large-scale environments.
- 15+ years developing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models.
- 3+ years working with large government datasets.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Azure analytics tools and cloud-based data environments.
- Strong data storytelling and executive presentation skills.
- Experience working with regulated, complex, or multi-domain datasets.
- Experience with data quality, governance, metadata, and data product development.
- Experience supporting government or public-sector analytics initiatives.
- Robust analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
