Mount Zion Early Learning Centre is looking for enthusiastic, caring, and dependable Child Care Assistants to join our team!

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a newly established early learning centre serving children from infancy to four years of age. At MZELC, we believe children learn best through meaningful relationships, play, exploration, and everyday experiences in a warm, safe, and welcoming environment.

Our educators and assistants work together to provide a play-based, living curriculum where children are encouraged to explore, create, discover, and develop at their own pace.

The Opportunity

As a Child Care Assistant, you will work collaboratively with educators and the MZELC team to provide high-quality care and learning experiences for young children.

You may be placed in one of our infant, toddler, or preschool programs, depending on the needs of the centre.

What You'll Do

- Support educators in creating inclusive, engaging, play-based learning experiences that promote all areas of children's development.
- Build warm, responsive, and respectful relationships with children and families.
- Use age-appropriate coaching, mentoring, and positive guidance strategies in interactions with children.
- Support children's learning through storytelling, educational play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.
- Maintain accurate daily records, journals, observations, and documentation.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, guardians, staff, and community partners.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and child-ready classroom throughout the day.
- Ensure learning centres and materials are accessible and available to children.
- Implement the MZELC Program Statement and support the centre's philosophy and values.




- Follow all MZELC policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Child Protection, and Risk Management policies.
- Follow requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act (2014) and applicable Ministry of Education regulations.
- Follow Public Health and Fire regulations and requirements.
- Participate in indoor and outdoor programming and help supervise children in our outdoor classroom.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Support the supervision and direction of students and volunteers when required.
- Exercise sound judgment and respond quickly to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children.
- Make the supervision, safety, well-being, and positive interaction of children and families the highest priority.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who is:

- Warm, caring, patient, and enthusiastic about working with young children.
- Dependable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Comfortable working with children from infancy through preschool age.
- Able to communicate professionally and effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
- Creative and able to support children's learning through play and everyday experiences.
- Committed to maintaining a clean, safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Able to demonstrate sound judgment and respond appropriately to children's needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education or qualifications from an accredited college or university are an asset.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a child care environment is an asset.
- Early Childhood Education training or apprenticeship experience is an asset.




- Current Standard First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification from a recognized training agency.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screen is required as a condition of employment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- A second language is considered an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Current immunizations as required by Public Health and the Ministry of Education.
- Ability to safely lift up to 60 lbs., including children and/or equipment, as required throughout the day. Medical clearance may be required to support this physical requirement.
