POSITION OVERVIEW The Child Care and After School Coordinator will ensure that all children and After School programs provide quality care, service, and support to participants and their families. The Coordinator will assist the Child Care and After School Supervisor with the set-up and day-to-day operational activities, including the management and supervision of a staff team. The Coordinator will provide support in leadership and stability in the development and direct delivery of programs.
This is a one-year temporary replacement position, with the potential for an extension based on operational and program needs.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care Facilities Standards. Plans and implements a consistent child centered program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards. Understands and complies with the YMCA Play to Learn and A Place to Connect Curriculum.
- Under direction of Child Care Supervisor, oversees all staff and oversee site checks, follow up on inspection requirements,
programming and staff interaction as well as documentation, record keeping and addressing any issues that may arise.
- Perform administrative duties for Child Care and After School, which include; registration, managing A/R’s, communicating withdrawals and manage any issues that may arise.
- Understands, follow and promotes YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures with staff and within center.
- Plans and implements a consistent child-centered program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
- Understands YMCA Healthy Child Development Program and incorporates into programming, would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrates a commitment to children’s learning and is responsive to research. Coordinator will be required to be adaptable and flexible to the changes which are brought forward on a daily basis within the operations of the center as well as the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick as a whole.
- Build relationships with children and their families to better understand their specific needs in order to plan effective strategies.
- Direct supervision, recruitment and performance management of staff team.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- ECE Certificate or equivalent training.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Child Care, After-School or Youth program.
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, particularly regarding split shifts, site locations (i.e.
Child Care and After-School).
- Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, and maintain focus in a busy center.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills including written and verbal, a team player.
- Recruitment and staff management experience is an asset.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a Social Development Check.
- Current or willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR.
