Why is this role important?

In this role you will be supporting the pharmaceuticals department, which focuses on the National Prescription Drug Utilization Information System (NPDUIS). NPDUIS contains pan-Canadian prescription claims-level data, as well as supporting information for additional contet, such as formulary and drug product information and information on policies of public drug plans in Canada. Duties include but are not limited to researching information to support analysis for CIHI reports and data requests, communicating with internal and eternal stakeholders,



and supporting analytical work, data modernization and data quality activities. As a co-op student you will be involved in a variety of activities that support priority projects for our department, that help drive CIHI’s overall mandate to deliver on better data, better decisions, for healthier Canadians. Specifically, in this role you will help ensure researchers and health system decision makers get timely access to data while meeting privacy and security requirements.

This unique opportunity will epose you to areas of process improvement, business operations, client support and health data privacy, security, and policy procedures.

What you'll do

- Participate in branch updates, departmental/team meetings, and team building activities.
- Contribute to the development and review of pharmaceuticals products, including the preparation and refinement of user documentation.
- Support data quality work in pharmaceuticals, ensuring data holdings meet quality standards for their intended purposes and providing accurate information on data quality to users.
- Assist with data verification, report preparation and formatting of formulary information.
- Conduct literature reviews on project-specific topics as needed.
- Provide support for additional activities within the pharmaceuticals department as required.

What you'll bring to the table

- Working towards an undergraduate or a graduate degree in Public Health, Health Studies, Health Informatics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Statistics, or related field that may require Co-op as part of the educational requirement
- Eperienced in conducting literature reviews, web searches,



and other research-related tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Ecel) and familiar with programming languages and data analysis tools such as Python, R and SQL.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal and eternal stakeholders both verbally and written.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to the team.
- Knowledge of health data systems, prescription drug coverage, or public health concepts is considered an asset.
