Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and ideally experienced Coffee Roaster/ Head Coffee Roaster to lead our roasting operations. This person may have plenty of experience and fall straight into full responsibilities of Head Coffee Roaster OR have less experience and work closely with the owners to build within this role (the pay is representative of this). Within the full role, you will oversee the entire roasting process, ensuring each batch meets our high standards for flavor and consistency.
This is a hands-on role for someone who takes real pride in their craft.
What you'll do:
- Develop and refine roasting profiles to optimize flavor profiles and consistency across batches in accordance to HOLM’s roasting style and ethos.
- Manage daily roasting schedules with the management team, ensuring timely production to meet demand
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and quality control protocols in all aspects of roasting and packaging
- Oversee the packaging process, ensuring proper labeling, sealing, and storage of roasted coffee
- Operate and maintain roasting equipment
- Conduct regular inventory checks of green beans & packaging supplies.
- Collaborate with the production team to improve manufacturing processes for efficiency and quality assurance
- Monitor and log roast data (temperature, time, first crack, development ratio) for consistency and quality control
- Cup and evaluate roasted batches, catching defects before they leave the building
- Collaborate with the sourcing/buying team on new coffee offerings and profile development
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure roasting facility
- Keep detailed records to support traceability and quality consistency over time
What we're looking for:
- 1 year minimum commitment
- Genuine passion for coffee
- Meticulous attention to detail; comfortable with repetitive precision work
- Experience operating a drum roaster (commercial roasting experience preferred, but we're open to training the right person)
- Strong palate and cupping skills, or eagerness to develop them
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule/production targets
- Physical stamina — this role involves lifting green coffee bags (50-70 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working around heat
- Reliable, punctual, and takes ownership of quality outcomes
- Basic math skills for measurements, weight calculations, and recipe adjustments
- Experience in food processing or manufacturing environments with a focus on quality control
