Taber Special Needs Society has been in existence since 1987. The Society provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. The Society advocates and supports an inclusive environment both for the individuals and the staff that support them. There will be on the job training and job shadowing.
Rotation details: Monday to Friday 9 AM to 4:30 PM 37.5 hours a week. This position will remain open until filled.
Overview: We are looking for a motivated, upbeat, and energetic male who is passionate about supporting others to join our Day Program Team. Our program operates Monday through Friday and supports a diverse group of individuals to live active, meaningful, and engaged lives within their community.
In this role, you will provide individualized support to people with a variety of abilities, needs, interests, and personal goals. We are looking for someone who brings energy, initiative, and creativity to their work and enjoys being active and involved in the community. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a supportive team and report directly to a Team Leader.
Responsibilities: ·– Support individuals in working toward personal goals identified through person-centered planning. – Create and maintain individualized daily schedules based on each person’s needs, interests, and commitments. – Seek out a variety of recreational, leisure, volunteer, and community-based opportunities – Actively participate alongside individuals in activities such as swimming, going to the gym, walking, recreation, volunteering, and community outings. – Support the development of independence, social skills, relationships, and healthy living. – Learn to recognize, understand, and respond to challenging behaviours while implementing individualized support strategies.
– Administer medications as required and assist with personal care and hygiene routines. – Complete daily logs, documentation, and written reports accurately and professionally. – Support individuals safely within the community and during transportation. – Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment. – Adhere to Taber Special Needs policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Be adaptable to changing environments and able to support individuals with a variety of needs. Be self-motivated with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Be able to remain calm in a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment. Be physically capable of participating in leisure activities and assisting with personal care routines. Be able to actively participate in and support individuals during physical activities, including walking, swimming, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Possess the ability to work effectively in a team and build positive relationships with individuals, team members, and families.
Basic computer skills are an asset- 18 years of age or older · A valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with proof of $2 million liability insurance · A clean criminal record check with the vulnerable persons sector check · High School Diploma or equivalent · Proficient in verbal and written English · Basic understanding and use of computer skills an asset
Experience in the disability sector or health sector is an asset, but not necessary as we provide all training.
Pay: $20.00-$22.26 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
