About the Role The Creative Communications Specialist provides day-to-day communications and creative production support for Snuneymuxw First Nation. As an accessible and welcoming point of contact, the Specialist works closely with subject matter experts and teams across the organization, receiving communications requests, asking the right questions and helping turn their knowledge and needs into clear, effective communications.
Strong interpersonal skills are central to the role. The Specialist builds positive working relationships, makes it easy for teams to engage Communications and helps guide requests through the communications process. Working within established brand, approval and cultural protocols, the role independently coordinates assigned projects and develops clear, respectful and engaging content for digital, print and community-facing channels.
The Specialist brings practical expertise in writing, graphic design, social media, photography, video and web content, while recognizing when sensitive, high-risk or strategic matters should be escalated to the Director of Communications.

What You’ll Do (Highlights)
- Plan, write, edit and produce accurate, on-brand content for social media, posters, newsletters, notices, internal communications and other digital and print materials.
- Coordinate communications requests from intake through completion, including clarifying audiences, timelines and approvals and managing competing priorities.
- Translate source material into accessible public-facing content and review materials for tone, accuracy, cultural respect, accessibility and brand consistency.
- Schedule and publish social media content, complete routine website updates, and support bulletin boards, language boards and major publications.
- Capture and edit basic photography and video, and coordinate printers, photographers, videographers and other vendors.
- Coordinate communications and creative deliverables for community and partner events, including promotional materials, signage, bookings and in office support.
- Maintain organized communications tools and records, monitor assigned project expenditures,
and identify practical improvements to templates, workflows and audience engagement.
What You Bring
- A diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, visual communications, digital media or a related specialty, including project or work-assignment coordination.
- Strong writing, editing, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with careful attention to accuracy, accessibility, tone and audience needs.
- Proficiency with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft 365; working knowledge of Durable and Wordpress is an asset.
- Basic photography and video capture and editing skills, plus experience coordinating vendors, quotes, deliverables and project expenditures.
- Sound judgment, creativity and initiative, with the ability to manage multiple short-turnaround assignments and recognize matters requiring escalation.
- Demonstrated cultural humility and the ability to work respectfully within Indigenous contexts; experience working with First Nations and/or Indigenous communities is preferred.
- A portfolio demonstrating writing, design and digital content capability.
- A valid BC Driver’s Licence, regular access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance, and the ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
