DBCS Computer
Airdrie
Customer Service & Operations SpecialistComputer Sales, Service & Hands-On Technical Support
DBCS Computer — Airdrie, Alberta
$20–$26/hour | Part-time, approximately 15–20 hours/week
DBCS Computer is a locally owned, home-based computer sales and service business in Airdrie, proudly serving the community since 2011.
We sell, service, repair, test and refurbish computers, laptops and computer equipment. We're looking for a reliable, capable and genuinely computer-oriented person to join our small team.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining customer service, sales, order processing, shipping, administration, troubleshooting, equipment testing and computer repair.
A little different from your average computer job
DBCS Computer operates from a private residence in Airdrie, rather than a traditional retail storefront. You should be comfortable working in a home-based business environment.
And yes, there is an important member of the team you should know about:
Wolfie is regularly present while we work, so you must be comfortable around dogs and genuinely enjoy being around them. If you're afraid of or uncomfortable with dogs, this probably isn't the right workplace for you.
We are looking for someone who actually likes computers.
We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to use a computer.
You should be genuinely interested in computer hardware, components, specifications, compatibility, troubleshooting and repair — and enjoy learning how things work.
You will work directly with computers, laptops and components on a regular basis. Depending on your experience, this can include:
- Diagnosing computer and hardware problems
- Testing desktops, laptops and individual components
- Installing and replacing RAM, SSDs, hard drives, batteries, screens and other components
- Building, upgrading and configuring PCs
- Disassembling and reassembling laptops and desktops
- Cleaning and preparing equipment for sale
- Testing used and refurbished equipment
- Troubleshooting Windows and software issues
- Identifying computer parts and components
- Researching part numbers, specifications and compatibility
- Determining whether components are suitable for specific computers
- Evaluating and testing equipment before it is sold
- Preparing equipment for customers
- Learning more advanced repair and diagnostic procedures over time
Hands-on computer repair, PC building, upgrading or troubleshooting experience is strongly preferred. You don't need to know everything when you start. We can teach you a lot.
What we do need is someone who is curious enough to look at an unfamiliar computer or component and think:
“Let's figure out what's wrong.”
If you enjoy taking a computer apart, identifying the problem, researching the right part, installing it, testing it and getting the machine working again, you'll probably enjoy this job.
Customer Service & Operations The technical work is only part of the position. You'll also help keep the business running smoothly from beginning to end.
Responsibilities include
- Responding to customer inquiries by email, phone and in person
- Helping customers select appropriate computers and equipment
- Providing basic technical guidance
- Preparing accurate quotes
- Creating invoices and payment requests
- Processing customer orders
- Following up on outstanding orders and customer requests
- Coordinating repairs and service work
- Receiving,
testing and organizing incoming equipment
- Packing and shipping orders
- Maintaining accurate records
- Updating product information and listings
- Assisting with inventory and day-to-day operations
- Helping with basic website and marketing tasks
- Performing other reasonable duties required to keep the business running smoothly
If you start something, you're expected to finish it or clearly communicate why you cannot. Reliability & Accountability
Reliability is extremely important in this position.
We need someone we can count on to:
- Show up for scheduled shifts
- Arrive on time
- Be consistent and dependable
- Communicate promptly when something unexpected affects their schedule
- Keep track of outstanding tasks
- Follow through on commitments
- Take responsibility for their work
- Recognize when something needs attention rather than waiting to be told
Unexpected things happen in everyone's life. We understand that. What matters is how you handle them.
If something goes wrong, we expect you to communicate proactively and help resolve the problem rather than leaving customers, coworkers or the business wondering what happened.
Mistakes happen. Hiding them doesn't.
If you make a mistake, we expect you to:
- Recognize it.
- Tell us.
- Take responsibility.
- Help fix it.
- Learn from it.
We're not looking for someone who hides problems, waits for someone else to discover them or assumes someone else will take care of them. You notice it. You deal with it. You follow through.
Independent & Self-Motivated The owner is frequently away from the business, sometimes for extended periods.
You therefore need to be comfortable working independently without someone constantly standing over your shoulder.
You should be able to:
- Prioritize your workload
- Stay organized
- Identify what needs attention
- Solve routine problems independently
- Research answers when necessary
- Make reasonable day-to-day decisions
- Recognize when something genuinely requires assistance
- Keep the owner informed about important issues
- Continue working productively without constant supervision
This is not a position where you'll be given instructions for every five minutes of your day. If you don't know how to do something, ask.
If you can reasonably figure it out yourself, do that first.
If a customer is waiting for something, don't assume someone else will remember to follow up.

- Professional
- Comfortable speaking with customers

This Probably Isn't the Right Job If... This position may not be a good fit if you:

- Frequently miss or arrive late for scheduled shifts
- Don't communicate when something goes wrong
- Don't enjoy working with computers
- Prefer purely administrative work
