McKesson Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Lead Data Scientist with experience in Generative AI development. This role will lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge machine learning and Generative AI solutions, leveraging advanced techniques to solve complex healthcare challenges and drive business transformation.

About The Role The Lead Data Scientist role at McKesson offers an exciting opportunity to spearhead the development of advanced AI solutions that can revolutionize healthcare operations and patient outcomes. As a key member of our data science team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining state-of-the-art Generative AI models, including large language models and AI agents, to address diverse enterprise challenges. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into innovative AI solutions, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and compliant with industry regulations.

Your leadership will be instrumental in establishing best practices for prompt engineering, model evaluation, and deployment, while mentoring junior team members. This role demands a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and effective communication skills to influence stakeholders and drive impactful projects.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field. You should have 7-10+ years of experience in data science or advanced analytics,



with a proven track record in developing and deploying Generative AI and large language models in production environments. Expertise in designing scalable ML and GenAI solutions, including RAG architectures and AI automation workflows, is essential.

Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face is required. You should have a deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data structures, along with experience working on cloud platforms like Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP, and MLOps practices. Excellent communication skills are necessary to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, and demonstrated leadership in project management and stakeholder influence is highly valued.

Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of Generative AI and agentic AI solutions, including ideation, research, prototyping, implementation, evaluation, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Architect and develop scalable GenAI systems such as large language models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, and intelligent automation workflows to enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
- Drive adoption of best practices in prompt engineering, model evaluation, fine-tuning strategies, and secure hosting to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Apply advanced data science and machine learning techniques across use cases including predictive modeling, NLP, anomaly detection, recommendation systems, and analytics enabled by GenAI.
- Develop custom ML models and analytical frameworks tailored to complex healthcare data challenges, ensuring solutions are relevant and impactful.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering,



and statistical analysis to generate insights and inform solution design.
- Collaborate with engineering and platform teams to deploy, monitor, and maintain AI solutions in cloud environments, following MLOps best practices.
- Establish model performance tracking, drift detection, and continuous improvement processes to ensure reliability and accuracy of deployed models and AI agents.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, cost-effective, resilient, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Maintain strong model governance, documentation, and auditability to meet regulatory and organizational standards.
- Apply Responsible AI principles, including transparency, explainability, data privacy, and security, especially within healthcare contexts.
- Provide guidance on the ethical and compliant use of LLMs and AI agents across various enterprise applications.
- Work closely with business stakeholders and product managers to translate requirements into clear problem statements, solution designs, and project roadmaps.
- Present technical insights and project updates to both technical teams and executive leadership.
- Mentor junior data scientists and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
