Love Ur Curls®
Mississauga
LUS Brands (“Love Ur Self”) is the Toronto-based company behind Love Ur Curls® and Love Ur Curls Kids (LUCK™) a hair care brand on a mission to simplify curl care and help people embrace their natural curls. Since launching in 2017, we’ve sold 10+ million bottles worldwide and built a passionate global community around our belief that you are more than a hair type. Today, we continue to innovate with high-performing, science-backed products that help people care for and style their curls Your Curls, Your Way™.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This role will play a critical part in Love Ur Curls’ next chapter of growth. The Director of Sales & Education will have the opportunity to build a recent commercial function, open doors to some of the most important beauty and qualified accounts in North America and create the education platform that helps the brand win once it reaches the shelf.
This is an opportunity for a commercial entrepreneur who wants more than managing an existing business. It is an opportunity to help build the future of Love Ur Curls® from the ground up.
This is not a role for someone looking to inherit a large team or simply manage existing accounts. We are looking for a builder, hunter and commercial leader who can open doors, win accounts and establish the sales and education infrastructure needed to scale Love Ur Curls® across professional and retail channels globally.
The Director of Sales & Education will be responsible for building Love Ur Curls’ sales presence across three primary distribution channels:
1. Major Retailers: including strategic accounts, prestige and specialty beauty retailers.
2. Distributors: identifying and securing distribution partners that can accelerate expansion into the professional beauty industry globally, with an initial focus on North America and Europe.
3. Individual Salons & Salon Groups: directly building relationships with salons, stylists and professional communities.
This is a highly entrepreneurial, hands-on role. In the early stages, the successful candidate will personally prospect, pitch, negotiate and close recent business while simultaneously building the education strategy required to drive successful adoption, sell-through and long-term brand loyalty.
The ideal candidate understands that distribution alone is not success. They know how to combine strong commercial relationships with compelling education, ensuring that retail associates, distributors, salon professionals and stylists understand the brand, the products and how to confidently recommend Love Ur Curls®.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Sales Leadership & Business Development
- Develop and execute the overall sales and distribution strategy for Love Ur Curls®, including building and managing the full P&L; for this new channel.
- Personally identify, prospect and close new business opportunities across major retail, distribution and professional channels.
- Build relationships with key decision-makers at strategic retail accounts, including buyers, merchants and category leaders.
- Develop compelling account pitches, presentations, assortment strategies and commercial proposals tailored to each prospective partner.
- Lead negotiations on new account opportunities, including commercial terms, assortment, launch plans, promotional programs and growth opportunities.
- Identify and secure the right distributor partners to efficiently scale Love Ur Curls® within the professional beauty industry.
- Build a direct-to-salon strategy, including identifying high-potential salon groups, influential stylists and independent salons.
- Establish a clear pipeline management process, including prospecting, account prioritization, forecasting and reporting.
- Own sales targets and develop actionable plans to achieve revenue and distribution goals.
- Monitor account performance, sell-through and inventory opportunities and proactively identify opportunities to grow the business.
- Partner closely with Marketing, Ecommerce, Operations and Finance to ensure sales plans are commercially viable and operationally executable.
- Represent Love Ur Curls® at industry events, trade shows and key customer meetings.
Education Strategy & Execution
- Build the Love Ur Curls® education strategy from the ground up.
- Develop a scalable education platform for retail associates, distributor partners, salon professionals and stylists.
- Create education programs that clearly communicate: The Love Ur Curls® brand and philosophy. Product benefits and routine. How to recommend products based on individual curl needs. Application techniques and product usage. Curly hair knowledge and customer consultation.
- Develop education tools and materials, including training decks, product guides, videos, digital learning resources and in-person education.
- Lead and facilitate key education sessions, particularly during the early stages of the function.
- Build a network of educators, ambassadors and/or field support as the business scales.
- Partner with the Marketing and Creative teams to ensure all education materials are on-brand, modern, compelling and easy to understand.
- Develop KPIs to measure education effectiveness, including participation, knowledge, engagement and impact on sales performance.
Building the Function
- Establish the processes, tools, reporting and operating rhythms for a new Sales & Education team.
- Recommend the future organizational structure required to support growth.
- Identify when and where to add additional sales, education or field resources.
- Build scalable systems rather than relying solely on individual relationships and tribal knowledge.
- Develop account planning, sales forecasting and pipeline management frameworks.
- Bring forward insights from customers, retailers, distributors and salons to influence product development, marketing and future growth strategies.
- Help shape the long-term omnichannel and professional distribution strategy for Love Ur Curls®.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Builder + Hunter Mentality
This is the most significant requirement. You will essentially be running a startup within a 10+ year established organization, as our entire business to date has been digital/DTC (direct-to-consumer). You are comfortable starting with a blank page.
You know how to identify opportunities, find the right contacts, get meetings and close business. You are equally comfortable presenting to a major retailer, negotiating with a distributor or walking into a salon to build a relationship. You don’t wait for a mature organization, established processes or a large support team to be successful.
You know how to build while doing.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 7-10+ years of progressive experience in beauty, haircare, professional beauty, retail sales or business development.
- Demonstrated experience selling into one or more of the following: Prestige or specialty beauty retailers. Major national retailers. Professional beauty distributors. Salons and salon groups.
- A strong network within the beauty and/or haircare industry is highly preferred.
- Proven track record of opening new accounts and driving current distribution.
- Experience working with retailers such as Sephora, ULTA or comparable prestige beauty accounts is a strong asset.
- Deep understanding of the professional salon and stylist ecosystem.
- Experience developing or delivering education programs for beauty advisors, stylists, salon professionals or sales teams.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including pricing, margins, promotional planning and forecasting.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple opportunities across different stages of the sales pipeline.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and evolving environment.
YOU ARE:
A hunter: You get energy from finding and winning new business.
A builder: You have experience creating strategies, processes and teams from the ground up.
A relationship expert: You can build credibility with a Sephora merchant, a distributor executive or an independent salon owner.
A beauty industry insider: You understand how the beauty and haircare ecosystem works and know how to navigate it.
An educator: You understand that great products need great storytelling, training and advocacy to win at retail and in the professional channel.
Commercially minded: You understand the numbers behind the business and know how to turn relationships into sustainable revenue.
Hands-on: You are willing to do the work yourself before building a larger team.
Entrepreneurial: You are comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the opportunity to create something new.
