Disability & Leaves Specialist

Full-Time

Hartland, NB (On-site)

The Disability & Leaves Specialist provides subject matter expertise in evaluating and adjudicating disability claims. This role plays a key role supporting employees through the short and long-term disability process, working collaboratively and confidentially with key stakeholders, third party administrators, and managers.

Additionally, the Disability & Leaves Specialist will provide support, planning and expertise on modified work, accommodations and functional assessments to ensure we are minimizing lost time and supporting the accommodation and inclusion of employees. The incumbent will assist with various benefit related issues in accordance with established policies and regulations while maintaining a very high degree of confidentiality.

The Disability & Leaves Specialist will have ownership and specialization over certain programs, processes and must have an approach that supports our employees, collaborates with key stakeholders, and acts like an owner: taking a continuous improvement mindset while balancing empathy and process discipline.

How You'll Help:

- Provide excellent customer service to employees, owner-operators and drivers regarding their benefits and disability claims, accommodations, and return to work plans, including answering inquiries, performing research, provide support on benefit plan documents and being an expert with extensive knowledge of all plans.
- Adjudicating short term disability claims.
- Partnering with third party administrators to adjudicate long term disability claims.
- Work collaboratively with third party administrators (TPA’s) to ensure reasonable responses to concerns and accuracy in the application of the policy and challenge when required.
- Manage accuracy of data in HR systems.




- Proficiency in disability management and case administration.
- Experience with leave types (parental, maternity, compassionate care, etc.)
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Analytical ability to assess medical documentation.
- Confidential record keeping and attention to detail.
- Compliance with federal accessibility/accommodation requirements.
- Ability to develop and monitor action plans for employees on leave.
- Experience with HRIS and disability management software.
- Owns and delivers on several critical daily, weekly, and monthly tasks required to maintain caseload and administration of programs.
- Develops expertise on all company programs related to leaves of absence and workplace accommodations and act as a subject matter expert with internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize and analyze information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

Your Skills & Experience:

- Post-secondary education, preferably in human resources, or a combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of progressive experience in pension and benefit administration.
- Stronginterpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Completes work with a high attention to detail maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Deal effectively and courteously with employees, owner-operators, drivers and the general public.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.




- Certification in disability management (preferred).
- 3–5 years relevant qualified experience (especially federally regulated workplaces).
- Bilingual (English/French) ability is an asset.
- Training in mental health support and return-to-work processes.
