This is a semester-based contract offering 15 hours up to 40 hours per week, with the possibility of extension
FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Director of UNB Language Studies and the ELP Coordinator on the UNB Fredericton campus, ESL Facilitators deliver English-language courses for various types of language learners in preparation for post-secondary study, professional, and/or personal purposes.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regardless of the ESL program in which the ESL Facilitator works, all ESL Facilitators share the same core responsibilities, which are:
- Provide instruction in the assigned skill set(s), including but not limited to listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, fluency, business communication/culture, and so on.
- Provide instruction to large or small groups of learners and/or to individual learners, as assigned;
- Create detailed lesson plans for each class taught and compile an electronic record (i.e. internal P: drive) of all curriculum documents utilized in an assigned level, skill set, or course.
- Develop/create curriculum and/or supplementary materials for in-class lessons, as necessary (e.g. tests and other marked assignments, handouts, practice materials, etc.);
- Assist learners in understanding the academic, professional and, as necessary, the societal/cultural norms of the Canadian environment.
- Schedule time (on a weekly basis), as required, for individual consultation with learners.
- Provide regular, in-depth feedback to learners on their progress on assignments, tests, and examinations.
- Provide regular, in-depth feedback to the Program Coordinator on student issues, learners’ progress, or other administrative matters such as scheduling.
- Track attendance for their students and as required, report attendance to the Program Coordinator.
- Maintain a grading record (e.g. D2L) for all students and submit final grades to the Program Coordinator or through the appropriate UNB system, at the designated time each term/semester.
- Participate in end-of-term consultations with the Program Coordinator regarding students at risk of failing their courses/programs and as required, be available to participate in student appeals.
- Attend and participate in regular level/program meetings with the Program Coordinator.
- Participate, on an on-going, as-needed basis, in curriculum review and development and provide feedback/input into curriculum matters.
