Who are we looking for?
We are growing and looking for a motivated Engineering Graduate, Tunnels to join our team in Mississauga or Markham, ON, starting around May 2027. This student opportunity is designed to provide practical experience on tunnel, underground structure, rail and transportation projects while working closely with experienced engineers and technical specialists. You will contribute to active projects, build your technical skills and learn how engineering concepts are applied in a professional consulting environment.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Support tunnel, shaft,
station and underground structure assignments within GHD’s Rail and Transportation business under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Assist with engineering calculations, design checks, data review and preparation of technical documentation.
- Help prepare drawings, figures, tables, presentations and reports for project deliverables.
- Support basic geotechnical and structural analyses using spreadsheets and, where appropriate, software such as PLAXIS, FLAC or Rocscience, with training and supervision provided.
- Assist with organizing site, investigation, laboratory or monitoring information and identifying items requiring follow-up.
- Participate in project meetings, team discussions and technical learning sessions.
- Apply GHD’s safety, quality and ethical standards to assigned work.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines.
What you will bring to the Team
- Interest in tunnels, underground structures, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering or transportation infrastructure.
- Foundational understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, structural analysis or related engineering concepts gained through coursework.
- Ability to apply academic knowledge to practical problems with guidance.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions and learn.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive organizational, time-management, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Exposure through coursework or projects to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, PLAXIS, FLAC or Rocscience is an asset, but not required.
- Previous co-op, internship, research, design-team or project experience is an asset, but not required.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or recently graduated of Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, Structural or a related engineering discipline at a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Eligible to start a full-time position around May 2027.
- Completion of relevant courses in geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, structural analysis, engineering geology or transportation is an asset.
- No prior tunnel engineering experience is required.
- Ability to work from the Mississauga or Markham office and participate in site visits when required.
- A valid Ontario driver’s licence is an asset where travel to project sites is required.
Salary: Annual Salary for Mississauga and Markham $72,000.- Salary Range is based on the preferred work location. If the selected candidate´s location differs, changes to the salary range may apply.
