Who are we looking for?
GHD is looking for an Engineering Graduate, Mechanical to join our Markham Office.
Our Building Mechanical
Design group provides engineering support primarily to Canada Central and West, but also to the wider network of over 10,000 GHD staff world-wide. We provide design work for all aspects of mechanical Building Services design, including Plumbing & Drainage, HVAC, Fire Protection and Alarm and Building Automation systems, and coordinate with all other core disciplines to provide seamless, multi-discipline project delivery, all out of our Canadian design center.
Our projects can range from Transportation, Buildings, Educational centers, water and wastewater to agricultural and food services, to industrial facility support. As a result, we see a large variety of projects and new challenges on a regular basis in sizes ranging from a few thousand to several million in engineering fees. As a result, we need people who can stay flexible in their thinking and provide input and adaptation of designs over a wide range of topics.
As an Engineering Graduate, you will work alongside experienced professionals to support the planning, design, and delivery of a wide range of engineering projects. Applying the knowledge gained through your studies, you will assist in solving engineering challenges while contributing to high-quality outcomes for our clients and the communities they serve.
You will gain exposure to diverse projects involving building systems, mechanical equipment, industrial processes, energy solutions, and infrastructure developments, developing practical engineering skills in a real-world consulting environment. Through mentorship, collaboration, and hands-on experience, you will build technical capability, strengthen your problem-solving skills, and develop an understanding of industry best practices.

What you will bring to the team?
- Analyze client technical specifications and requirements in terms of building mechanical engineering principles and technology requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of building mechanical system designs, and oversee drawing and 3D model preparation.
- Generate and review technical specifications primarily as they relate to Building mechanical requirements.
- Interact with core discipline teams (Architectural, structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, and process), as well as internal and external clients to coordinate and achieve project objectives in a timely manner.
- Ensure technical communication is clear, concise, and well understood by stakeholders across different levels of management (both internal and external clients).

- Client & Customer Management (External): Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems.
- Community of Practice Management: Participate in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to begin to build own expertise.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats.
- Engineering Drawings: Create engineering drawings to support the communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
- Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the development of, and implement feasibility testing of, proposed engineering solutions to provide feedback and data to validate the design.
- Equipment Installation: Help specialists set up and test new products or processes; install complex systems with guidance.
- Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
- Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Product and Solution Development: Carry out a range of product development and engineering activities. Use established systems to analyze customer needs and define and deliver products.
- Project Management: Support others by carrying out a range of project management activities.
- Request for Bid Solicitation/Proposal/Tender Response:
Gather information and resources to assist in the drafting of standardized tenders/proposals in response to bid solicitations, request for proposal, and request for tender.
- Research: Support others by carrying out a range of research activities.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Support technical troubleshooting efforts, aiding in the quick and accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.
What you will bring to the Team
- A recent or upcoming degree completion in a relevant discipline for the role.
- 0-2 years of experience related to the role
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle a wide range of client and project types and requirements.
- Strong analytical, mechanical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage and multitask in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Autodesk products (AutoCAD, REVIT, and BIM360) is an advantage.
- A valid Ontario driver's license and a willingness to travel to project sites within Ontario is an asset.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to think critically and approach challenges with curiosity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in diverse and multidisciplinary teams.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to continuous career development.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- A genuine interest in sustainability, innovation, and creating positive outcomes for communities.
Salary: Annual Salary for Markham: $72,000.- Salary Range is based on the preferred work location. If the selected candidate´s location differs, changes to the salary range may apply.
