Experienced Excavator Operator – Dig Crew

Groundhogs is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator to join our Dig Crew.

This position is for an operator who is genuinely comfortable on an excavator, not just someone who can move material. Much of our work takes place around existing homes and buildings where access can be tight and conditions can be challenging.

You need to be able to excavate confidently, work in tight spaces, grade and finish with the machine, and think through problems as conditions change.

What You'll Be Doing

As part of our Dig Crew, you'll be responsible for preparing projects for our installation crews. Work includes:

- Operating excavators primarily around residential and commercial buildings
- Excavating foundations for waterproofing and foundation replacement projects
- Working safely in tight-access and challenging excavation areas
- Excavating around existing utilities, structures, decks, driveways and landscaping
- Loading, moving and managing excavated material
- Backfilling, grading and completing finish work with the excavator
- Setting up each project so the installation crew can work efficiently
- Identifying site challenges and helping determine practical solutions
- Performing daily equipment inspections and taking care of the equipment you operate
- Working closely with the rest of the crew to keep projects moving safely and efficiently

- Has significant previous excavator operating experience
- Is confident excavating in tight and difficult areas




- Can perform exact excavation and finish work
- Understands grading, elevations and proper backfilling
- Has positive judgment around buildings, utilities and existing property
- Takes pride in their equipment and workmanship
- Can solve problems instead of waiting to be told every next step
- Works safely and understands the responsibility that comes with operating equipment
- Is dependable and works well as part of a crew
- Brings a positive attitude to work

A valid driver's licence is required. Construction, excavation, foundation, waterproofing or similar experience is an asset. Why Groundhogs?

This isn't a job where you'll sit in the same machine doing the same thing in the same place every day.

Our crews work at different properties, on different projects, with different challenges. One project may involve carefully excavating beside an existing home; the next could involve a foundation replacement, drainage work or a difficult-access excavation.
