The Opportunity We are seeking a practical, hands-on Facilities & Operations Lead for Calgary Farmers' Market South. Reporting to the Market Manager with support from the Business Manager, this role helps ensure the market remains clean, safe, functional, accessible, and professionally maintained.
The successful candidate will be a visible on-site presence who can identify issues early, complete routine repairs, coordinate contractors, support safety checks, follow up on work orders, and respond professionally to day-to-day operational needs in a busy public market environment.
Hours of Work
Candidates should be available for either schedule option:
- Option 1: Wednesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Option 2: Thursday to Sunday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Rotating on-call coverage is a required part of this role, including scheduled after-hours, weekend, holiday, and emergency response coverage. On-call matters may include leaks, alarms, lockouts, power issues, equipment failures, weather-related issues, contractor access, or other urgent site matters. On-call time will be compensated in accordance with CFM policy. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will:
- Conduct regular interior and exterior walkthroughs, including common areas, vendor areas, washrooms, mechanical areas, parking areas, entrances, exits, walkways, signage, and grounds.
- Identify and resolve routine maintenance, safety, cleanliness, access,
and site issues; escalate more significant matters as required.
- Complete minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing fixture repairs, lighting replacements, door and hardware adjustments, drywall patching, painting, minor carpentry, and general fixture repairs.
- Monitor basic building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, waste management, and other operational systems.
- Support seasonal maintenance needs such as snow removal checks, exterior cleanup, drainage issues, landscaping coordination, gutter checks, and parking lot conditions.
- Respond professionally to vendor, customer, staff, and contractor questions related to building operations, maintenance, safety, access, cleanliness, and site conditions.
- Escort and monitor contractors, prepare spaces for contractor access, and ensure work areas are safe and organized.
- Support safety requirements, fire and life-safety checks, hazard reporting, emergency response, and accurate maintenance, inspection, work order, contractor, supply, and incident records.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in building operations, facilities maintenance, property management, commercial maintenance, retail operations, or a related trade.
- Practical knowledge of general building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, fixtures, waste systems, and exterior maintenance.
- Comfort using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and basic maintenance equipment safely.
- Strong communication, customer service, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, carry, climb, and perform physical work throughout the shift, including lifting up to 50 lbs when required.
- Availability and reliability for scheduled rotating on-call coverage.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a public-facing, multi-tenant, retail, commercial, food market, or mixed-use setting.
- Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, or service providers.
- Familiarity with work order systems, property management software, or basic digital recordkeeping.
