Weaver, Simmons LLP is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Family Law Legal Assistant to join our Sudbury office. The successful candidate will work closely with an Associate in our Family Law Department, providing comprehensive administrative and legal support in the management of a busy family law practice.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple files, deadlines, and competing priorities. Given the sensitive nature of family law matters, the successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, and a high level of confidentiality when communicating with clients and handling file information.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparing, drafting, formatting, and revising correspondence, court documents, pleadings, affidavits, and other family law documentation under the lawyer’s direction;
- Preparing and organizing materials for conferences, motions, hearings, trials, and other court attendances;
- Filing and serving court documents in accordance with applicable procedures and deadlines, including electronic filing where required;
- Managing the lawyer’s calendar, scheduling client appointments, court appearances, conferences, examinations, and other commitments;
- Monitoring limitation periods, court deadlines, undertakings, and other important file dates and ensuring appropriate follow-up;
- Opening, maintaining, organizing, and closing client files, including both electronic and physical files;
- Communicating professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, experts, and other parties regarding routine file and scheduling matters;
- Assisting with client intake and obtaining required information and documentation from clients;
- Reviewing incoming correspondence and court materials, bringing time-sensitive matters to the lawyer’s attention, and maintaining appropriate follow-up;
- Preparing accounts and assisting with time entry, billing, and other file-related administrative matters as required;
- Maintain confidential client information and records with the highest level of discretion and professionalism.
- Provide occasional backup support for reception and switchboard duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and other office technologies.
- Experience with legal software,
i.e. Divorcemate and PCLaw, is considered an asset.
- Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
Qualifications · Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
· Minimum 1 year of experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably in Family Law.

Schedule:
- 7-hour shift

Rate of Pay: Weaver Simmons LLP welcomes applications from candidates with a wide range of experience levels, including recent graduates and experienced legal assistants.
Compensation for this position starts at $22.00 per hour and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and ability to perform the duties of the role.
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 per week
