Position Title: Early Learning CentreEarly Childhood Educator X3(hiring 3)

Location: Fairvern Children’s Place

Terms of Employment:

Status: Permanent, Full time

Start Date: Expected December 7, 2026 (subject to change with notice)

Hours: Monday to Friday, up to 7 hours per day and/or up to 35 hours per week, hours of work are between 6:30 am to 7:00pm, rotating shifts, subject to change and room rotation, contingent upon enrollment

Actual hours of work may be subject to slight variation

Rate of Pay: $26.24 – 28.91(five Step scale) + eligible wage enhancements contingent on funding

Requirements:

· Early Childhood Education Diploma

· Registered Early Childhood Educator in Good Standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

· Food Handler Certificate

· Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

· A commitment to the childcare field with a philosophy that is conducive to that of Muskoka Family Focus and Children's Place.

· Knowledge and understanding of the How Does Learning Happen? document and Child Care and Early Years Act and requirements from Public Health for licensed child care

· Experience working with children and their parents in a child care environment. Knowledge of family dynamics

· Ability to provide engaging programming for children of all ages and development.

· Able to meet the physical demands of daily program

· Strong Leadership skills and the ability to work independently or in a group

· Good attendance record.

· Worker Health and Safety Awareness Proof of Completion Certificate.

· WHIMS 2015 Training Certificate.

· Violence and Harassment in the Workplace Certificate

· Current Standard First Aid and Infant/Child C.P.R. Certificate.

· Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screen and Medical Assessment, including up to date immunizations including Hepitatis B, on hiring and as required by Muskoka Family Focus and Children's Place policies.

MISSION STATEMENT: Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place is dedicated to providing high quality child and family resources and educational services.

JOB SUMMARY: To develop and maintain a protected and secure inquiry play based early learning environment for the care of children in an inclusive setting and to develop and implement programming based on the Ministry of Education How Does Learning Happen? Document and the Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place Program Statement that enhances the cognitive, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development of all children in care.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Help build a positive work environment and positively promote our organization in the community.
2. Be aware of and adhere to policies and procedures for Muskoka Family Focus & Children's Place. Maintain or exceed the standards set by the Early Learning and Child Care Act (CCEYA) 2014 and the District of Muskoka Assurance for Quality Improvement (AQI) Program.
3. Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as prescribed by the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
4. May be called upon to act as designate in the absence of the supervisor.
5. Health and Safety

a. Work in compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Acts and Regulations.b. Use personal protective equipment as directed by Supervisor.c. Report workplace hazards and dangers to Supervisor.d. Work in a manner as required by Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place and use prescribed safety equipment when required.e.



In accordance the internal responsibility system take responsibility for Health and Safety as an essential part of his/her job.
1. Care of Children

- Supervise children at all times ensuring a safe inquiry play based learning environment. Be aware of the number of children in care at all times.
- Actively guide, interact with and observe children in their groups as well as on an individual basis.
- Apply the information from developmental profiles conducted with each child to promote his/her cognitive, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development.
- Take care of the children’s physical/emotional needs, for example: listening, nurturing, hugs, feeding, changing diapers or assisting with toileting, administering minor first aid and/or contacting parents/emergency services when required, etc.
- Carry emergency information about each child if leaving the premises as well as the emergency bag and a working cell phone.
- Ensure that children and parents know the boundaries and expectations of our programs including our Program Statement.

1. Programming

a. Plan and implement inquiry play based programming for all children. In collaboration with the Program Supervisor, assist in the creation of Individual Support Plans (ISP) for children with medical/challenging/special needs following our Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place Program Statement. b. Be responsible along with the children in your group for the programming, set up and general appearance of the learning environment of the assigned program using the environment as the ‘third teacher’ (HDLH).

c. Create monthly calendars and/or newsletters describing weekly indoor and outdoor programming.

d. Work with the support staff and the Early Learning Centre Supervisor to ensure you have the materials and supplies for all aspects of the day including creative, dramatic, physical, etc., considering budgetary constraints. Make photocopies as required.

e. Follow through on the direction of other professionals when programming for children with challenging and/or special needs, when necessary following the child’s Individual Support Plan (ISP).

f. Work with the centre Supervisor and co-workers to organize and implement field trips and special visitors to enhance programming.

1. Community/Team Building

- Communicate with the centre Supervisor on a regular basis regarding any issues related to the children, parents, work environment, supplies or toys, etc.
- Maintain a positive professional working relationship with co-workers, parents, students, volunteers, resource teachers and other professionals, considering the children’s needs as the priority.
- Assist in acquainting parents with other programs that Muskoka Family Focus & Children's Place offers and with services available for individual family needs.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents, written and verbal. Encourage engagement and involvement of the parents in our programs.
- Work with the resource teacher to provide an excellent integrated setting for children with challenging and/or special needs following the child’s ISP.
- Attend and participate in early learning centre team meetings and Muskoka Family Focus & Children's Place all-staff meetings, as well as ongoing professional learning opportunities.
- Maintain a Continuous Professional Learning Portfolio as required by the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Act as a team player, offer ideas, support and suggestions for improvement where necessary, and as a resource to other teachers and staff.
- Report any suspicions of abuse to Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions while referring to the Child Protection Protocol. Inform your Supervisor of this report.
- Maintain the confidentiality of users,



staff and volunteers at all times, including any written information collected from families.
- Direct, check attendance and evaluate co-op and ECE students. Guide, value and report on volunteers when necessary.
- Participate in monthly fire drills.
- Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process as well as the Program Statement Checklist, including regular long and short term goal planning in cooperation with the Program Supervisor.

1. Care of Property:

a. Work as part of a team with other staff in your room to maintain a tidy and aesthetically pleasing environment, for example: update bulletin boards regularly, display artwork, wipe counters, put toys away, remove garbage, etc. b. Work as part of a team with other staff to maintain a tidy and aesthetically pleasing Early Learning Centre, for example: outside foyer, playrooms, halls, gross motor room, playgrounds, storage and staff rooms. This includes general housekeeping duties, such as: mopping floors, laundry, dishes and removing garbage, always considering ratios.

c. Ensure all toys and equipment are cared for, clean, safe, and in working order while following the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s (SMDHU) direction and requirements. If not remove until necessary repairs are made or discard if unable to repair.

d. Follow opening and closing routine for the centre.

1. Record Keeping:

a. Complete developmental profiles using the Nipissing Assessment Tool for each child. Communicate results to parents. b. Participate in the Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) program for the Early Learning Centre.

c. Maintain daily record keeping for children in care.

d. Use the daily communication log/book for the Early Learning Centre and individual rooms (if applicable).

e. Follow the organization’s procedures for the distribution of, and maintain a record of, any medications administered to the children in care.

f. Maintain a record of, and communicate with your supervisor, any incidents requiring first aid and/or medical attention both indoors and outdoors, including any Serious Occurrences while following the requirements of the CCEYA.

g. Maintain a record of cleaning and maintenance as per the SMDHU requirements.

h. Complete the Playground Assessment Checklist before the equipment is used daily, monthly, seasonally and annually as per the requirements of the CCEYA.

i. Once per month someone in the building does a health and safety assessment. These reports are forwarded to the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

Because of the changing nature of the work and work to be done, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.
