Position Summary:
The Financial Accountant will support the day-to-day financial operations of Avenge Energy Services, including transaction processing, reconciliations, month end close activities, and accounts payable and receivable functions. This role is well suited to an accounting professional who is eager to build hands on experience in a fast paced, industrial services environment while working towards their CPA designation.
This position will be based out of downtown Calgary, Alberta.
This is an in-office role, no remote or hybrid arrangements are available.
Compensation: Starting at $70,000 per year + Benefits
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of financial transactions
- Reconcile bank statements and accounts payable/receivable sub-ledgers
- Prepare month end journal entries, including but not limited to cost accruals and expense entries
- Collaborate with department managers to ensure accurate month end cost allocation for reporting purposes
- Liaise with clients and vendors to ensure accounts payable and receivable balances and payments remain accurate and up to date
- Process invoices, payments, and employee expense reports
- Assist with payroll data entry, processing, and reporting duties
- Support internal and external audit requests as needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls
Skill and Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail,
paired with the ability to explain the "why" behind the numbers
- Flexibility to quickly adapt communication style, format, and content when new information arises
- Motivated self-starter with a can-do attitude
- Solid knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Strong collaborator who works well across teams
- Skilled at managing and prioritizing multiple initiatives at once
- Ability to organize thoughts logically and persuasively, and communicate them effectively in conversation, writing, and formal presentations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- A desire to obtain CPA certification, or currently enrolled in the CPA PEP program
- Knowledge and practical experience applying accounting principles and practices
- Experience with Axon is considered a strong asset
- Proficiency in MS Excel; experience with MS Dynamics 365 considered an asset
- Ability to work with minimal supervision within a team oriented, safety focused environment
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and above average organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, including written, electronic, and oral
