About ChainPatrol

ChainPatrol protects crypto and Web3 brands from phishing sites, impersonation accounts, and scam infrastructure. We detect threats across the open web and social platforms and get them taken down at scale, for protocols, exchanges, foundations, and funds. We're a Delaware corporation with a distributed team across the US, Canada, and the Philippines, and we're growing quickly enough that our finance function needs a real owner.

The role

This is the first dedicated finance hire. Today, accounting, forecasting, treasury, payroll, and company spend are split across the founders and a fractional bookkeeper. You will consolidate all of it into one function, then build the systems that let it scale without adding headcount.

You'll work directly with the CEO and COO on the numbers that drive board conversations, fundraising, and hiring decisions. That means you own the model behind those conversations, not just the reporting that feeds it. When we ask what a hire costs us in runway or what a slipped renewal does to the quarter, you're the person with the answer and the recommendation.

We're hiring this role without a ceiling in mind. The person who builds this function properly and grows with the company is the person who leads finance here at the next stage. We'd rather hire for that trajectory than fill a seat.

It is also a hands-on role. You will be reconciling accounts and chasing invoices in the same week you're rebuilding the revenue forecast. If you want to manage a team of five on day one, this isn't it. If you want to own a finance function end to end and design it the way it should be designed, it is.

We're open on background. You might be a controller, an accounting manager, or a senior bookkeeper who has outgrown the books and wants the strategic half of the job. We care about judgment and range more than title history. There's also a compliance and tax credit layer that comes with operating across three jurisdictions, and we'll walk you through the specifics in the first conversation.

What you'll own

Financial model and revenue forecasting

- Own the company financial model: runway, hiring plan, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and the bookings growth required to hit each ARR target.
- Maintain the revenue forecast off real pipeline and contract data, covering new bookings, expansions, renewals, pauses, and churn. Reconcile forecast to actuals every month so the model earns its credibility.
- Turn the model into decision support: what a hire costs in runway, what a pricing change does to ARR, what a slipped renewal means for the quarter.

- Build the recurring reporting the founders take into board and investor conversations.

Accounting and close
- Own QuickBooks and the monthly close: reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition, and clean, on-time financial statements.
- Manage the bookkeeping relationship and raise the quality bar on the underlying data, not just the output.
- Maintain a defensible audit trail across all entities. We operate across multiple jurisdictions and the books need to hold up.

Cash collection and receivables
- Own AR end to end: invoicing, aging, dunning, and collections follow-up with clients and their AP teams.
- Cut DSO and make cash timing predictable. Escalate genuinely stuck accounts with a clear recommendation rather than a status update.
- Coordinate with Customer Success so collections conversations don't cut across active renewal or escalation threads.

Treasury and investment strategy
- Own cash positioning across operating accounts and entities. Build and maintain a treasury policy covering minimum operating balances, sweep thresholds, and counterparty limits.
- Propose and run a conservative short-duration investment strategy for idle cash, with capital preservation and liquidity first.
- Manage banking relationships and FX exposure across USD, CAD, and PHP.

Payroll across multiple jurisdictions
- Own payroll for US, Canadian, and Philippines-based team members, including contractor vs. employee classification, statutory withholdings, benefits administration, and the employer-of-record or PEO relationships that support them.
- Keep us compliant in each jurisdiction and flag risk before it becomes a filing problem.
- Build a clear, documented comparison of the cost and compliance profile of each jurisdiction to inform where we hire next.

Company spend, travel, and events
- Own the travel and expense program end to end. Administer Navan, covering policy configuration, user management, approval flows, and expense capture, and hold the vendor relationship.
- Own event and travel logistics for conferences, sponsorships, and team offsites: booking flights and accommodation, coordinating dates and details with the people travelling, and tracking every event against a budget set before we commit to it.
- Own recurring team spend categories (IT and hardware, software, apparel and swag)

with a named budget, a reorder cadence, and a defensible per-head cost. Kill zombie subscriptions and unowned spend.
- Report cost per event and cost per head, and bring a recommendation on what to repeat and what to cut. Sponsorship spend should be measurable against pipeline, not filed away as goodwill.

First 90 days Days 1 to 30: Take full ownership of the close. Produce one clean month of statements. Map every bank account, card, entity, and recurring vendor. Inventory current AR and build the collections queue.

Days 31 to 60: Rebuild the financial model with a documented forecast methodology. Ship a draft treasury policy. Take over Navan and the T&E; policy, and put a real number on current travel, event, and recurring team spend.

Days 61 to 90: Forecast-to-actuals variance reporting running monthly. Payroll compliance reviewed in all three jurisdictions. Spend down on unowned categories, with per-event and per-head cost reporting live and going to the founders.

What we're looking for

Required

- 5+ years in finance or accounting, with meaningful time at a startup or small company where you owned the whole stack rather than one slice of it.
- Deep QuickBooks fluency and a genuine command of the monthly close.
- Advanced spreadsheet modeling. You build models other people can audit, not models only you can run.
- Experience with multi-jurisdiction payroll and cross-border compliance.
- Ownership experience on company spend: T&E;, vendor management, or budget administration you were accountable for rather than processing.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and incomplete process, and the judgment to know when to fix something versus when to document it and move on.

Nice to have

- CPA, CA, or equivalent.
- SaaS revenue recognition and ARR reporting experience.
- Exposure to R&D; tax credit programs (SR&ED; or equivalent).
- Familiarity with crypto or Web3 businesses, including stablecoin invoicing, digital asset custody, or crypto-denominated client payments.
- Experience supporting a fundraise or building board reporting materials.
- Prior first-finance-hire experience.

How we work We're small, direct, and allergic to process for its own sake. We expect people to bring recommendations rather than open questions, to disagree in the moment rather than after the decision, and to own outcomes past the point where the handoff would have been defensible.

Compensation

$60,000-$80,000 + Performance-based incentives To apply

Send a résumé and a short note to [email protected]. Tell us about a finance function you built from something messy. What it looked like when you found it, and what it looked like when you were done.
