Overview

As an integral member of the student life team, the Food and Beverage Assistant plays a key role in supporting the holistic development of students and contributing to a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive boarding environment at Purcell Collegiate. The Food and Beverage Assistant is expected to be present at the student boarding facility during their scheduled shifts, to support the delivery of the school's food provision and nutrition program to its students.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Food Preparation & Service

- Preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
- Preparing food for a relatively large group of students on a fixed schedule.
- Following standardized recipes and portion sizes.
- Preparing meals for student athletes with appropriate nutritional considerations.
- Accommodating documented food allergies and dietary requirements.
- Preparing food in advance for weekends, tournaments, or special events.
- Maintaining high food-safety standards.
- Assisting with receiving and storing food deliveries.
- Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Helping with menu preparation and food-cost control.
- Working cooperatively with the Chef and other boarding staff.

Skilled Conduct




- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, ensuring student safety and communicating promptly with relevant staff and/or emergency services.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and discretion, especially when dealing with sensitive or confidential student information.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions to stay informed about boarding policies, safety protocols, and food service practices.
- Uphold and embody the school’s mission and values, serving as a positive role model, and ambassador for Purcell Collegiate within the dorm and broader community.

Minimum qualifications:
- relevant education and experience in food and beverage provision
- satisfactory completion of a Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Query
- Class 5 drivers license required (preference for Class 4)
- submission of a current Driver’s Abstract
- have or be willing to obtain valid First Aid (SFA-C & AED)
