Experienced Hardwood Floor Refinisher / Journeyman

Ironbark Hardwood Floors is looking for an experienced hardwood floor refinisher or flooring journeyman to join our growing team in the Edmonton area.

We are seeking someone with genuine, hands-on hardwood refinishing experience who can produce consistently high-quality work. The ideal candidate will be confident operating professional sanding equipment, preparing floors properly and completing staining and finishing work to a professional standard.

This is not an entry-level position. Applicants should have direct experience sanding and refinishing hardwood floors.

Responsibilities

- Sand and refinish solid and engineered hardwood flooring
- Operate belt sanders, edgers, buffers, planetary sanders and dust-extraction equipment
- Complete edging, scraping, detail sanding and final floor preparation
- Select appropriate sanding sequences for different floors and conditions
- Apply stains evenly and assist with colour matching
- Apply sealers, waterborne finishes and two-component finish systems
- Complete board replacements, repairs and minor subfloor preparation
- Install hardwood flooring, trim and transitions when required
- Sand and refinish stair treads, landings and detailed areas
- Identify flooring issues and recommend appropriate solutions
- Organize jobsites and work independently when required
- Maintain tools, machines and dust-control equipment
- Protect clients’ homes and maintain clean, professional jobsites
- Communicate respectfully with clients and team members
- Help guide and train less-experienced team members when required

Required Experience and Skills
- Proven professional hardwood floor sanding and refinishing experience
- Confident operation of belt sanders, edgers and floor-buffing equipment
- Ability to produce flat, consistent floors without drum marks, chatter or excessive edging




- Knowledge of sanding sequences, abrasives and floor-preparation procedures
- Experience applying stains, sealers and finishes
- Solid understanding of jobsite cleanliness and dust control
- Ability to identify and correct common sanding and finishing problems
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Ability to work efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy flooring equipment
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently
- Professional conduct in clients’ homes
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Hardwood installation and repair experience is a strong asset
