We are seeking applications for Heavy Duty Mechanics. Reporting to the Lead Mechanic, this role is critical for ensuring that scheduled and breakdown maintenance is completed safely and efficiently to deliver high equipment availabilities to the development crews.

Duties

- Attend Mining Pre-Shift Meetings each shift
- Conduct operator pre-start checks on mobile plant and light vehicles prior to operation
- Clean and maintain cleanliness of underground vehicles (Internally and Externally to Byrnecut policy
- Assess potential hazards and make necessary changes to eliminate or control them, reporting to supervisor as per Byrnecut policy
- Ensure that the necessary lockout procedures are in place before commencing work on any equipment
- Conduct required inspection to maximise equipment utilisation
- Safe operational integrity of all plant is not compromised at any time by ensuring that the OEM and Byrnecut’s critical control safety systems are maintained to the highest integrity




- No modification will be conducted on any plant that will change it from its original specification unless approved by the Plant Manager
- Provide breakdown mechanical repairs to mobile equipment as necessary to surface and underground equipment
- Analyse failed parts and components and correct malfunctions
- Use sophisticated diagnostic equipment and techniques to perform component replacements on electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and air machine systems
- Assemble, install, repair and maintain hydraulic pneumatic, electronic, heating and air conditioning units
- Rebuild, adjust and service a variety of components such as engines, transmissions. Differentials, steering systems, electrical, gauges, suspension and monitoring systems
- Service fuel and fuel injection systems, air conditioning , emission control, lubricating and power assist equipment
- Ensure that the process of maintenance planning, both preventative and scheduled is in line with the maintenance procedures and policies and that this is effectively carried out and recorded
- Diagnose and repair internal combustion and diesel engines and hydraulic system lift mechanisms
- Ensure that all underground equipment is mechanically and electrically maintained in accordance with company policy and to the same specifications as provided for by the OEM
- Make up hydraulic hoses as required
- Ensure pre-start service and repair documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure the maintenance foreman is aware of the necessary procurement of spares and consumables required to continue smooth operation of the workshop




- Carry out schedules servicing to mobile equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with procedure, regulations and the relevant service sheets
- Read and interpret service and spare parts manuals
- Report all equipment faults to the maintenance foreman for scheduling into the workshop weekly planning
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace, and abide by workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Maintain and comply with fitness for work requirements
- Arriving at work adequately rested.
- Initiate and participate in equipment and job status handovers with mine Supervisors and cross shift operators

Qualifications

- Relevant qualifications in underground mining equipment maintenance
- Experience in latest underground mining equipment
- Minimum 5 years experience in a underground mining maintenance role
- Willing to work rotating 12 hour shifts (Day/Night Shift)
- Relevant Trade Certificate
- Post trade experience working in the mining or heavy earth moving industry
- Experience on Cat 1700 / 2900 Loaders
- RCT Tele remote experience
- Air Con Accredited preferred not essential
- Experience on Sandvik production and development drills
- Working safely at heights certificate
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- High level of diagnostic skill electrical and hydraulic systems preferred
- Have a good understanding of general OHS
- Ability to understand, interpret and follow instructions
- Ability to work to deadlines
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment

Pay: $170,000.00-$180,000.00 per year
