The Division of General Surgery at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH), a McGill University-affiliated teaching hospital, is recruiting a hepatobiliary-pancreatic (HPB) surgeon to join one of Canada’s longest-standing minimally invasive HPB programs. The position offers an opportunity to join and help advance an established, high-volume HPB program with a focus on laparoscopic and robotic HPB surgery.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic Division of General Surgery, maintaining a broad-based practice that combines HPB surgery with general acute care surgery (ACS). The JGH is a major McGill teaching site with an active general surgery residency program, a busy emergency general surgery service, and a collegial multidisciplinary oncology program.

Position Summary

- Full time academic surgical position within the Division of General Surgery, JGH, with a McGill University academic appointment commensurate with experience.
- Practice focused on benign and malignant hepatobiliary and pancreatic disease, with an emphasis on minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) techniques.




- Participation in a vibrant general acute care surgery (ACS) practice, sharing call within the division.
- Access to an established robotic and laparoscopic HPB program, multidisciplinary tumour boards, and McGill’s academic and research infrastructure.
- Mentorship in advanced minimally invasive HPB techniques, including robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple) and robotic major hepatectomy.
- Involvement in the teaching of medical students and general surgery residents; opportunities for fellow supervision.

Qualifications

Required:

- MD with FRCSC certification in General Surgery (or eligibility), and eligibility for licensure with the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ).
- Completion of an accredited fellowship in hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery; or in surgical oncology/complex general surgical oncology, with a demonstrated focus or substantial experience in HPB surgery.
- Demonstrated training and competence in minimally invasive HPB surgery, with some robotic surgical experience or training.
- Eligibility for an academic appointment at McGill University.

Preferred:

- Some HPB-specific experience gained during fellowship or subsequent practice; not required, and candidates completing fellowship training this year are encouraged to apply.
- Interest or experience in surgical education and/or clinical research.
