About the role The position is at a tech company. We are looking for a hands-on, full-cycle Human Resources Manager to establish and manage the HR function from end to end.
This role is responsible for the complete employee lifecycle, from job requisition through offboarding, including partnering with hiring managers on job descriptions and interviews, overseeing benefits and policy administration, maintaining compliance with employment laws across the U.S., Canada, and international jurisdictions, preparing contracts and employment agreements, and managing the People & Culture cadence of monthly meetings, performance management, and bonus and compensation cycles.
This is a great chance for an HR generalist or HR Manager who enjoys having ownership across the entire employee lifecycle within a fast-paced, multi-country environment.
Responsibilities
Recruiting, Hiring & Hiring Manager Partnership
- Work closely with hiring managers to define open roles, establish requirements, and turn them into clear and engaging job descriptions.
- Manage job postings and distribution across job boards, the company careers page, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
- Oversee the complete interview process, including coordinating interview panels, developing interview guides and scorecards, reviewing resumes, and conducting initial phone and video interviews.
- Support hiring managers with structured interviewing, feedback gathering, and decision-making to minimize bias and strengthen hiring outcomes.
- Prepare and negotiate offers and manage the offer-to-start process, including background checks and pre-employment requirements.
- Monitor recruiting metrics such as time-to-fill, source of hire, and offer-acceptance rate, and provide updates on hiring pipeline health.
Employment Contracts & Agreements
- Prepare, review, and manage employment agreements, offer letters, independent contractor agreements, and consulting agreements for U.S., Canadian, and international employees and contractors.
- Ensure agreements accurately reflect worker classification—employee or contractor—and meet applicable local employment requirements.
- Work with outside counsel and Employer of Record (EOR) or Professional Employer Organization (PEO) partners to support international employment arrangements.
- Maintain and update templates for offer letters, employment agreements, NDAs, and separation agreements as regulations and requirements evolve.
Benefits & Policy Administration
- Manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans such as 401(k) and RRSP, and leave programs across all operating countries.
- Act as the main point of contact for benefits enrollment, renewals, vendor management, and employee inquiries.
- Create, maintain, and communicate HR policies and employee handbooks that address the requirements of each jurisdiction.
- Manage leaves of absence, including parental leave, statutory leave in Canada and other countries, and accommodation requests.
Employment Law, Compliance & Regulatory Handling
- Monitor and maintain compliance with U.S. federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, EEOC, ADA, and state-specific requirements; Canadian federal and provincial employment standards; and relevant international labor regulations.
- Manage compliant I-9 and work authorization processes in the U.S., work permit tracking in Canada and international jurisdictions, and required labor postings.
- Oversee payroll-related compliance matters in collaboration with Finance and Payroll, including worker classification, statutory deductions, and multi-jurisdiction tax requirements.
- Keep policies, contracts, and HR practices aligned with changing laws, identify potential legal risks, and escalate issues to leadership or outside counsel as needed.
- Conduct employee relations investigations and ensure outcomes are fair,
well-documented, and legally appropriate.
People & Culture, Performance & Compensation
- Manage the People & Culture calendar, including recurring monthly meetings and employee and leadership check-ins focused on culture, engagement, and team well-being.
- Develop and oversee the performance management process, including goal-setting, mid-year and annual reviews, performance improvement plans, and manager coaching.
- Manage bonus and incentive compensation programs, including calculation support, employee communications, and coordination of payouts with Finance.
- Lead employee engagement efforts, recognition programs, and culture-building initiatives across a distributed, multi-country workforce.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of progressive HR experience, including generalist or HR Manager responsibilities across recruiting, benefits, compliance, and employee relations.
- Proven experience managing HR and employment matters across multiple countries, ideally including both the U.S. and Canada. Additional international experience is a strong advantage.
- Working knowledge of U.S. and Canadian employment laws and familiarity with EOR and PEO models for international hiring.
- Experience preparing and managing employment agreements, offer letters, and contractor agreements.
- Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle recruiting and working closely with hiring managers.
- Experience overseeing performance management and compensation or bonus cycles.
- Strong discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential employee, compensation, and legal information.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience with Rippling is preferred. Experience with other HRIS and ATS platforms, such as BambooHR, Gusto, or Greenhouse, is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- PHR, SHRM-CP, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or CPHR certification.
- Prior experience in an early-stage or high-growth startup, including establishing HR infrastructure from the ground up.
- Experience with global payroll or EOR platforms, such as Deel, Remote, or Rippling Global.
Pay: $110k to $130k annually.
