Skate Instructor – Part-Time/Casual The South Fish Creek Recreation Association (SFCRA) is a not-for-profit organization that operates Cardel Rec South, one of Calgary’s busiest multi-partner recreation facilities. Located in the heart of Shawnessy, Cardel Rec South features four ice arenas, two gymnasiums, nine multi-purpose program and rental rooms, a restaurant, and a wide variety of recreation programs. We work alongside numerous facility partners and tenants to provide welcoming, positive recreation experiences for our community.

SFCRA is looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Skate Instructor to join our Programs team. The ideal candidate is a confident skater who enjoys working with children and can create a safe, encouraging, and fun environment for participants learning to skate.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver safe, fun, and engaging Learn to Skate lessons for participants approximately 3–15 years of age, including some parented classes.
- Teach and demonstrate age- and skill-appropriate skating techniques and progressions.
- Create a positive and encouraging learning workplace that helps participants build their skills and confidence.
- Monitor participant safety and ensure appropriate practices are followed on the ice.
- Assess participants’ skating skills and provide constructive feedback through progress cards.
- Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding their child’s development and progression.
- Provide excellent customer service to participants, families, and facility guests.
- Work collaboratively with fellow instructors, Programs staff, and other Cardel Rec South team members.

Qualifications




- Strong skating ability with the confidence to demonstrate and teach fundamental skating skills.
- Previous experience teaching Learn to Skate, figure skating, power skating, hockey skating, or a similar skating program is preferred.
- Experience working with children and leading groups is an asset.
- Knowledge of skating instruction techniques and skill progressions.
- Positive, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certification is an asset.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search is required.
- Must be available to work the scheduled program hours, including evenings and weekends.

Hours of Work This is a part-time/casual position, with regular program hours currently scheduled as:

- Tuesday: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Additional hours may be available based on program needs.

Compensation

$18.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
