Cassellholme, a not for profit, charitable organization, operates a 240 bed Long-Term Care facility serving residents 18 years of age or older who have long-term health care needs as well as a Community Support Services program that supports seniors' independent living.
What can I expect to do in this role?
Reporting to the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead, the IPAC Assistant supports the day-to-day activities of the IPAC Program and assists with the implementation and monitoring of infection prevention and control practices throughout the home. The IPAC Assistant will work collaboratively with the IPAC Lead, nursing and care staff, and other departments to promote a safe and healthy environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting routine IPAC surveillance activities, including monitoring and reporting infection related information and trends.
- Assisting with the collection, tracking, and reporting of IPAC data and statistics.
- Supporting the IPAC Lead with outbreak identification, investigation, management, and follow-up.
- Conduction and/or assisting with audits of IPAC practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, cleaning and disinfection, and other infection prevention practices.
- Providing reminders, coaching, and support to staff regarding IPAC policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Assisting with IPAC education and orientation for staff, residents, families, and visitors as appropriate.
- Supporting the implementation of infection prevention measures during outbreaks and other identified risks.
- Identifying and communicating IPAC concerns or gaps in practice to the IPAC Lead or appropriate member of the leadership team
- Participating in IPAC committee meetings, initiatives, and quality improvement activities.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to IPAC activities.
- Promoting a culture of infection prevention and safety throughout the home.
- Performing other IPAC-related duties as assigned by the IPAC Lead.
How do I qualify? Mandatory Requirements:
- Current Person Support Worker (PSW) certificate or diploma for a recognized educational institution; other health care-related education will also be considered.
- Recent infection prevention and control (IPAC) experience is considered an asset.
- Completed/enrolled in IPAC-Canada/APIC endorsed infection control course or recent infection control experience is an asset.
Skills & Competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge of, or willingness to learn, infection prevention and control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, outbreak prevention and management, and routine practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to collect, document, and communicate information accurately.
- Positive communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide support and education to staff in a respectful and collaborative manner.
- Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of the IPAC and interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to effectively communicate IPAC information through practical, engaging, and respectful education and coaching.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, clinical documentation systems, and eLearning platforms.
- Proven effective time management and priority-setting abilities.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
