Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, organized, and self-motivated Janitor / Building Caretaker to oversee the cleanliness, safety, and day-to-day care of our church building and onsite daycare facilities. This hands-on role combines custodial work, event room setups, light maintenance, and seasonal ground care. The ideal candidate takes pride in maintaining a welcoming workplace for worship, community programs, and special events like concerts, weddings, and funerals.

Key Responsibilities

Custodial & Cleaning Services

Church Facilities: Deep clean and maintain all offices, meeting rooms, hallways, washrooms, kitchens, sanctuary, library, and common areas.

Floor Care: Vacuum, sweep, mop, and maintain carpets and hard-surface flooring.

Sanitization: Clean and disinfect washrooms daily; replenish paper products, soap, and supplies.

Upkeep: Dust furniture, pews, windows, doors, and maintain organized janitorial storage areas.

Daycare Facilities Care

Daily Sanitization: Provide dedicated daily cleaning and sanitizing for the two daycare facilities operating within the church.

Space Maintenance: Clean daycare classrooms,



entrances, stairways, washrooms, cloakrooms, and common zones to ensure a healthy, safe environment.

Waste, Recycling & Grounds

Waste Management: Collect and prepare garbage/recycling for municipal pickup days; return bins promptly and keep storage areas tidy.

Seasonal Grounds: Apply salt and sand to entrances/walkways during winter; remove exterior debris and water lawns during summer.

Event Support & Light Maintenance

Room Setups: Set up and take down tables, chairs, and furniture for services, meetings, concerts, and life events (weddings/funerals).

Minor Repairs: Replace lightbulbs, adjust fixtures, and handle small maintenance tasks.

Security & Inspections: Conduct regular safety walkthroughs; check doors, windows, lighting, and alarm systems; report major building system issues to the Building Manager.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, facilities or building maintenance is highly preferred.

Physical Capability: Good physical condition with the ability to safely lift, carry, move heavy furniture, and stand for extended periods.

Skills: Basic handy/maintenance skills are a strong asset.

Attributes: Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Interpersonal: Friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with church staff, daycare personnel, volunteers, and visitors.

Languages: Basic conversational and written English OR French required.
