Journeyman Service Electrician

Akai Electric is looking for an experienced Journeyman Service Electrician to join our small Vancouver-based team.
This is dynamic position; we value positive communication and interpersonal skills more than technical skills. The right candidate should enjoy talking with people, planning and troubleshooting job more than the technical work.
If you enjoy variety and different sites each day and making sure things are set and done correctly, this position may be a good fit for you.

What We're Looking For
Required
- BC Journeyman/Journeyperson Electrician certification
- Very strong communication skills
- Valid BC driver's licence
- Strong electrical troubleshooting mindset/skills
- Experience with residential and/or commercial service work
- Ability to work independently
- Good understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code
- Clean and professional workmanship
- Reliable and organized
- Comfortable communicating directly with customers
- Proficient in spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate clearly with customers, coworkers and site contacts
- Able to document work completed and communicate job requirements clearly
Experience with the following is an asset:
- Commercial building maintenance
- Temporary power
- Service calls and troubleshooting
- Older residential electrical systems
- Planning smaller projects
- Estimating labour and materials
The Work
Our workload is approximately
50% Commercial Service & Maintenance
- Building maintenance and electrical repairs
- Temporary power installations and modifications
- Troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment
- Lighting, controls and distribution work
- Equipment connections and small installations
- Ongoing work for established commercial clients
- Small projects and alterations
- Working alongside other Akai service technicians on larger commercial jobs and maintenance projects
50% Residential Service
- Electrical troubleshooting and repairs
- Renovations and alterations
- Panel and distribution work
- Lighting, receptacles and dedicated circuits
- Older-home electrical repairs and remediation
- Service calls and small residential projects
- Teaming up with other electricians on larger residential projects when required
Some days you'll be running your own service calls, while other days, you'll be working as lead of a small team on commercial or residential projects. Most jobs will initially be pre-estimated and scheduled for you,
allowing you to focus on completing quality work and looking after the customer.
As you become familiar with our systems and pricing, training will be provided in estimating and pricing service work. Our goal is to develop someone who can eventually assess a job, determine the required work and materials, and confidently manage smaller service projects from start to finish.
Location
Our work is primarily located in Vancouver and nearby areas of the Lower Mainland.
Because this is a service position with regular travel between customer sites, the ideal candidate will live in Vancouver or within a reasonable commuting distance of the city. Commutes from the Fraser valley, Maple Ridge, Surrey or Langley may not be ideal.
