We have an exciting chance for an Junior Accountant, to join our Finance team in Steinbach. This is a great opportunity to build your accounting experience while working alongside a collaborative team and contributing to the financial operations of SCU. The Junior Accountant seeks to support accounting operations by inputting data into the accounting system, reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts, and assisting in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Maintain general ledger accounts and process journal entries in the financial accounting system, ensuring accuracy and efficiency at all times
- Reconcile general ledger accounts by reviewing documentation, identifying discrepancies, and following-up with the appropriate staff member
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports such as the general ledger analysis report - Ensure compliance with tax authorities, remitting tax payments as required
- Maintain general knowledge of and adhere to credit union policies/procedures and current accounting principles
- Apply best practices and identify areas for improvement
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma, plus two years of formal education, such as a certificate in accounting, or equivalent
- Up to one year of job related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Business acumen
- Software proficiency
