Job Summary
Manchu Wok is seeking an organized, experienced, and hands-on Kitchen Manager to oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure consistent standards for food quality, safety, preparation, and service. The ideal candidate will be a strong team leader who can supervise kitchen staff, manage inventory and food costs, coordinate daily production, and maintain an efficient and positive kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily kitchen operations and food preparation
- Lead, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff
- Assign daily duties and coordinate kitchen workflow
- Ensure menu items are prepared according to established standards
- Maintain consistent food quality, taste, presentation, and portion sizes
- Train, coach, and support kitchen employees
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate food and supply orders
- Control food costs, portion sizes, and kitchen waste
- Ensure proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and temperature control
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen
- Enforce food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
- Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance issues
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff and restaurant management
- Assist with staff scheduling and coverage as needed
- Monitor kitchen performance and address operational issues promptly
- Ensure the kitchen is prepared for busy service periods
Requirements
- Previous Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, Head Chef, or senior kitchen experience
- Strong knowledge of skilled food preparation and kitchen operations
- Proven ability to supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Experience with inventory and food-cost control
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience in quick-service or high-volume restaurant operations
- Strong knowledge of Asian or Chinese-style food preparation
- Inventory purchasing and supplier coordination experience
- Staff scheduling and training experience
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and consistency
- Ability to manage multiple kitchen priorities
- Ability to remain calm and productive during busy service
