Load Forecast Advisor

Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00
Position Highlights The load forecast is a critical foundation of BC Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan and is used across the company for capital planning, operations planning, revenue forecasting, and other functions. As a Load Forecast Advisor or Senior Load
Forecast Advisor in the Industrial Load Forecast team, you will be responsible for producing energy and peak demand forecasts for BC Hydro’s industrial customers as a key member of a broader energy planning group. You will be expected to produce load forecasts using well-established modelling methods, and to develop new modelling methods to forecast emerging loads and sectors.
This position is open to either an Intermediate or Senior level candidate, with future progression within the role possible.
Once a selection is made the team will determine which level to offer based on selected candidates’ education, experience and skill set.
The Annual Salary range would be reflected below:
- Load Forecast Advisor (Intermediate): $89,910 - $113,720
- Sr. Load Forecast Advisor: $109,700.00 - $138,700.00
What you'll do The main responsibilities associated with delivering timely and accurate forecasts include:
- Utilizes economic models and relationships in delivering industrial load forecasts.
- Proactively identifies emerging drivers—including load, economic, customer, and end-use factors—that may impact future
industrial demand.
- Understands industrial customers’ expansion, electrification, and decarbonization roadmaps.
- Translates policy and regulatory changes into long-term load forecasting scenarios.
- Coordinates the efforts of consultants, data providers and department peers where necessary to facilitate the creation of
the industrial sector forecasts. Advises the manager on budget requirements.
- Regularly monitors performance of existing forecasting models and processes. Monitor industry developments with
respect to models and forecasting methodologies.
- Proactively builds, maintains and manages ongoing internal and external working relationships.
- Synthesizes load forecast information for communication to Executives and the Board, within Integrated Planning, across
BC Hydro, and to the BC Utilities Commission and interveners through regulatory processes.
Additional Responsibilities for the Senior Load Forecast Advisor:
- Leads complex forecasting studies and establishes the analytical approach and delivery plan for key industrial sub-sectors
such as oil and gas, mining, forestry, emerging industries (such as AI, data centres, hydrogen), load and market research programs and customer surveys.
- Provides independent leadership for a larger portfolio of projects than the Load Forecast Advisor, ensuring successful
delivery of key business objectives.
- Planning, organizing and implementing the annual work schedule. Coordinating the integration of sector forecasts within
regional and system load forecasts and with other critical and complex company processes
- Establishes and ensures new modelling methodologies are appropriate and carries out due diligence over data.
- Leads continuous improvement of forecasting models, methodologies, data practices, and workflows and promotes
adoption of improved approaches within the load forecasting team.
- Exercises independent judgment in analysis and problem solving on highly complex and medium scope problems.
What you bring
- Load Forecast Advisor (Intermediate):
- 2-5 years of relevant work experience, with some experience in the conduct of load research or economic studies.
- Good data management and attention to detail.
- OR Senior Load Forecast Advisor:
- A minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience with demonstrated depth in one or more of the following areas: industrial
project development proposals,
existing industrial operations analysis, policy analysis, energy industry developments and forecasting, data management and analytics.
- Ability to lead processes independently and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Advanced technical leadership skills in forecasting or industrial sector. Understanding of the operational profiles,
production cycles, and energy requirements of major industrial sectors
- A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an asset.
Common Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in relevant areas such as economics, engineering, business, or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated capability of designing and building analytical models and/or conducting industrial sector market research.
- Demonstrated competency with MS Office suite, particularly Excel.
- Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, including the ability to prepare PowerPoint slides, write briefing
notes and make presentations for senior leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams comprising consultants and employees.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.
Preferences
Any combination of the following would be considered an asset:
- Understanding of how energy is used today, and how that use might change in future, for one or more of BC Hydro’s
major customer groups (heavy industry including natural gas production, processing and transport; mining; forestry;
datacentres)
- Certified Energy Manager designation

- This role requires in-office attendance at BC Hydro’s downtown Vancouver location, up to five days a week.
