MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (MILLWRIGHT) – Etobicoke, Ontario

IBP (Imperial Building Products) is a coast-to-coast national steel stud manufacturer serviced by two divisions with branch offices across Canada. IBP is a registered member fabricator of the Canadian Sheet Steel Building Institute (CSSBI). Our products are manufactured in Canada, with distribution nationwide. We provide fully engineered & tested systems, design assistance and cost-saving options, with over 1000 installed projects completed in a variety of building types.

IBP is currently recruiting a Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) for our steel stud plant, based in Etobicoke, Ontario.

It's a permanent and full-time position, offering a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to demonstrate their skills and abilities in a manufacturing operation within a large corporation.

Reporting to site Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) is responsible for keeping production equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and continuous improvement. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and ideal for someone who thrives in a manufacturing environment and takes pride in doing work the right way, especially when it comes to safety.

Key Responsibilities

Safety First

· Consistently follow and promote safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding standards, and hazard identification.

· Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) / risk assessments, incident investigations, and near-miss reporting.

· Ensure maintenance work is completed in compliance with applicable safety requirements

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

· Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems such as roll-forming lines, straighteners, feeders, presses/punches, shears, uncoilers.

· Service conveyors, gearboxes, chains/sprockets, bearings, couplings, shafts, and drive systems.





· Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems (valves, cylinders, pumps, compressors, regulators).

· Diagnose breakdowns quickly and safely, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

· Perform equipment alignments, rebuilds, and precision tasks (e.g., belt/chain tracking, lubrication best practices).

Preventive / Predictive Maintenance

· Execute scheduled PMs, document work completed, and maintain accurate records in maintenance logs.

· Recommend improvements to PM frequencies, spare parts, and reliability strategies.

· Maintain machine maintenance data.

Fabrication & Continuous Improvement

· Perform basic to intermediate welding and fabrication (MIG/Stick), cutting, drilling, and fitting as required.

· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and drawings to determine repair procedures.

· Support line upgrades, changeovers, and continuous improvement initiatives (OEE, downtime reduction, 5S).

Collaboration & Communication

· Work closely with Production to minimize downtime and maintain product quality & accuracy.

· Maintain strong attendance and professionalism contribute to positive team culture and morale.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequired / Strongly Preferred

· Industrial Millwright/Mechanic certification is preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates pursuing an Industrial Millwright/Mechanic certification.

· Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and a practical, hands-on approach.

· Experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors,



and rotating equipment.

· Ability to work safely and independently in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to work weekends as required.

Assets

· Experience in steel stud / cold-formed steel, roll-forming, stamping/punching, coil-fed equipment, or slitting operations.

· Basic electrical and controls exposure (sensors, photo eyes, proximity switches, PLC fault diagnosis).

· Rigging/hoisting knowledge; overhead crane and forklift experience (or willingness to be trained).

· Familiarity with reliability tools.

· Continuous Improvement experience.

Hourly wage: $35.00 to $41.00

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Pay: $35.00-$41.00 per hour
