Job Summary

CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Manager, Strategic Initiatives (SIM) – Energy Systems Standards. Reporting to the Director, Energy Systems Standards, the SIM advances strategic priorities across the CSA Group petroleum and natural gas and nuclear portfolios.

The SIM identifies emerging issues and technologies, assesses opportunities for research and standards-based solutions, builds strategic relationships, secures funding, and leads initiatives that strengthen existing programs and incubate new areas of work. The SIM connects priorities and opportunities across CSA Group sectors and functions. A highly creative individual with a strategic mindset, the SIM works with sector staff and external stakeholders to develop research and standards-based initiatives, strengthen strategic relationships, and support sustained engagement to advance the impact of the sector’s work.

Responsibilities

- Identify and advance opportunities for new research, standards, advisory services, education, and other standards-related products by monitoring external and internal developments. Define business requirements and execution approaches for priority opportunities in collaboration with functional teams including Education, Research, Advisory Services, Marketing, and Finance. Prepare associated proposals and funding applications.




- Contribute to sector strategies and lead assigned aspects of implementation. Monitor active and planned initiatives against strategic priorities, recommend adjustments, and support sector and organizational impact and revenue objectives.

- Provide leadership across teams and outside of direct reporting relationships to align resources around strategic objectives. Build consensus, secure commitment, and present clear, evidence-based recommendations in oral and written formats.
- Build and manage relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders to develop and secure support for priority initiatives. Establish strategic alliances, monitor and address emerging issues, and represent CSA Group in external forums.
- Serve as a key sector interface with CSA Group Government Relations and Policy.

Monitor relevant policy and regulatory developments across Canada and internationally. Support engagement, relationship-building, and responses to government and regulatory priorities.

- Promote referencing of CSA Group standards in regulations, programs, or through other relevant instruments.

Education And Experience

- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a science or engineering discipline or other related field.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in a business, government, or not-for-profit environment, including at least 5 years in business development, stakeholder engagement, project management, and/or standards development.
- Experience and established network in Canada’s petroleum and natural gas sector.
- Familiarity with the nuclear and/or broader energy sectors would be an asset.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills,



including experience presenting to senior leaders and large audiences and developing persuasive proposals, funding applications, and strategic plans.
- Ability to work independently, establish priorities, influence without direct authority, and manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong ability to navigate complexity and synthesize uncertain or emerging information into actionable insights that advance evolving priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Strong understanding of funding and research programs, government priorities (federal/provincial/territorial), and trends affecting Canada’s energy sectors (including petroleum and natural gas, hydrogen, and nuclear).
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and develop practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and coordination skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work across competing priorities and timelines.
- Demonstrated judgment, initiative, facilitation, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build consensus across organizations and disciplines.
- Proficient with Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Travel: Some travel, primarily within Canada, will be required.

The typical hiring range for this position is $116,230–$152,555 CAD gross annually. The actual base pay offered will depend on factors such as education, licenses, certifications and experience. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
