Position Overview
The Manufacturing Specialist is responsible for interpreting and translating design engineering specifications into accurate bills of material (BOMs) and production routings within the company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. By ensuring that design intent is efficiently and precisely reflected in manufacturing data, this role supports process improvements and effective production operations. This role also supports the IFS implementation through data migration, testing, training, and go-live support.
Key Responsibilities
- Review design engineering specifications and drawings, converting them into detailed and accurate manufacturing bills of material (MBOMs) in the ERP system to match production requirements.
- Interpret engineering documentation to develop, modify, and maintain routing information—such as operation sequence, work centers, and labor standards—in the ERP system.
- Ensure Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s) are implemented appropriately and within the specified timeframe at the plant level.
- Work with cross-functional teams on cost roll-ups and cost analysis, ensuring BOM and routing accuracy supports reliable product costing.
- Collaborate with production, supply chain, and quality teams to validate BOMs and routing changes, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with specifications.
- Analyze manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and advance lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve ERP data issues related to BOMs and routings, working closely with IT support as needed.
- Ensure all updates to manufacturing data are compliant with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support the IFS implementation through legacy BOM/routing data cleansing and migration, and user acceptance testing (UAT), authoring work instructions, training users, and providing go-live and hypercare support.
- Document and communicate revisions to BOMs and routings,
providing training and support as required to stakeholders across the organization.
- Participate in ERP system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new modules relevant to manufacturing operations and data management.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical field is an asset. Equivalent manufacturing or process experience particularly combined with ERP BOM and routing responsibility is equally valued.
- Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing workplace (e.g., IFS, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
- Robust ability to interpret and translate design engineering documentation into manufacturable BOMs and routings.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and dedication to data accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant engineering software.
Preferred Skills
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with process mapping and continuous improvement projects.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards relevant to manufacturing (e.g., ISO, etc.).
- Experience in a CTO manufacturing environment, including exposure to product configurators or CPQ tools, is an asset.
- Prior ERP implementation or go-live experience (data migration, testing, training, hypercare support) is an asset.
Work Environment
This position operates within both office and manufacturing floor settings, requiring frequent interaction with various teams and regular hands-on evaluation of production processes to ensure alignment with engineering designs.
Reporting Structure
The Manufacturing Specialist reports to the Plant Manager or Designee and works in close coordination with production, supply chain, and quality teams. Should this excellent opportunity interest you, please submit your resume, including salary expectations.
