Blue Grass Sod Farms
Red Deer County
Are you passionate about marketing, social media, events and bringing creative ideas to life?
Blue Grass is looking for an energetic, highly organized and motivated Marketing & Social Media Assistant / Apprentice to join our marketing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in marketing while learning alongside an experienced, high-functioning team. We are looking for someone with initiative, creativity and an eagerness to learn—not necessarily someone who already knows everything.
The right person will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media, digital marketing, event coordination, advertising, graphic design, customer engagement and marketing strategy. For someone who demonstrates ability, initiative and leadership, there is significant opportunity for increased responsibility and career growth within our organization.
What You’ll Do
This is a varied, hands-on position. No two days will necessarily look the same.
You will assist our marketing team with:
- Planning, organizing, promoting and executing events from concept through completion.
- Coordinating event logistics including vendors, entertainment, schedules, guest lists, registrations, ticketing, prizes, signage, catering and last-minute details.
- Supporting Blue Grass social media platforms, including content scheduling, captions, collaborations, promotions and engagement.
- Assisting with the creation and organization of social media content, photographs, videos and marketing assets.
- Helping develop and implement digital marketing campaigns for products, events, workshops and seasonal promotions.
- Conducting research into customer demographics, target audiences, competitors, industry trends and new marketing opportunities.
- Assisting with email marketing campaigns, customer communication and promotional announcements.
- Creating digital and print marketing materials using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar programs.
- Assisting with website content and digital assets, including basic HTML where appropriate.
- Coordinating promotional products, prizes, event merchandise and branded materials.
- Assisting with marketing and event budgets, invoices and expense tracking.
- Monitoring marketing and event results including attendance, engagement, reach and campaign performance.
- Maintaining marketing calendars, content schedules, contact lists, files, event details,
follow-ups and project checklists.
- Communicating professionally with vendors, customers, community partners, content creators, event participants and Blue Grass team members.
- Working with different departments and locations to make sure marketing initiatives are organized and executed successfully.
- Staying current with trends in social media, digital marketing, event planning and emerging technology.
The Person We’re Looking For More important than having years of experience is having the right attitude, work ethic and ability to learn.
We are looking for someone who:
- Loves organization. Calendars, schedules, files, contacts, event details, follow-ups and checklists don't intimidate you—you enjoy keeping things organized.
- Can keep up in a fast-moving environment. Several ideas or projects may come your way at once, and you can turn them into priorities and action items.
- Takes ownership/Self-starter. Rather than continually asking what to do next, you look ahead, solve what you can and bring recommendations when a decision is required.
- Is excellent with people. You can comfortably and professionally communicate with customers, vendors, creators, community partners and coworkers.
- Understands social media. You don't have to arrive as a social media strategist, but you should be comfortable with platforms such as Instagram and Facebook and interested in learning more.
- Can manage logistics. Once given a plan, you are comfortable following through on details, confirmations, schedules, vendors and deadlines.
- Is comfortable speaking up. A strong assistant doesn't simply agree with every idea. You should be able to respectfully identify priorities and say, “That's a great idea, but these things need to be completed first.”
- Has discretion and good judgment. You may be exposed to business information, budgets, contracts, internal discussions and confidential matters. Trustworthiness is essential.
- Doesn't require constant supervision or praise. You are dependable,
emotionally steady and take satisfaction in seeing projects completed successfully.
- Wants to grow. We are particularly interested in someone who wants to develop their skills and take on progressively greater marketing, project-management or leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Business, Graphic Design, Event Management or a related area is preferred; however, we will consider a combination of education, experience and demonstrated ability.
- Recent graduates and candidates early in their marketing careers are encouraged to apply.
- Robust interest in marketing, social media, events and brand development.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow projects through to completion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
- Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook and other social platforms.
- Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
- Photography, videography or basic video-editing skills are an asset.
- Experience with email marketing software is an asset.
- Familiarity with website management or HTML is an asset.
- Experience coordinating events is an asset.
- Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new programs and technology.
