MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR - OPERATIONS

40 hours per week | HYBRID | $51,000 Annual Salary

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Marketing Coordinator - Operations leads marketing and communications initiatives that support the GTHS’ operational programs and services. This role is responsible for communications related to Adoptions, Animal Care, Hospital, Dog School, Humane Education, Volunteer Program, Pet Support Services, and other operational priorities, including urgent animal centre closures, service updates, awareness dates, and mission-driven storytelling. The coordinator works closely with operational leaders and the Director of Development & Communications to identify priorities, plan communications, and translate program information into clear, engaging, brand-aligned content.

When new or urgent requests arise, the Director supports decisions about what can be completed, deferred, or reassigned.

Position Schedule: 40 hours per week. This is a hybrid role requiring regular work at GTHS locations, including the Animal Centre, generally three to four days per week. Occasional evening and weekend work is required for events and time-sensitive communications.

What You’ll Do

- Work with the Director of Development and Communications to develop, maintain, and execute annual communications and marketing plans that support operational departments and mission marketing, including adoptions/animal care, hospital services, dog school, humane education, volunteer programs, and pet support services.
- Lead the planning, writing, design, and production of external communications related to operational programs and services, including e-newsletters, e-blasts, social media, website updates, videos, print materials, media materials, signage, and other promotional assets.
- Celebrate and share authentic GTHS stories, including animal journeys, program impact, volunteer engagement, and community outcomes, through written, visual, and video content.
- Gather content onsite across operational departments to create timely and engaging material for social media, the website, email communications, and media opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing Coordinator of Development to support shared communications priorities across the organization, including:
- Maintaining the communications calendar for operational initiatives and ensuring timely completion of tactics including social posts, blog updates, e-blasts, press releases, internal updates, and campaign assets.
- Supporting shared organizational e-newsletters and email communications, taking the lead on assigned sends and contributing operational content, copy, and creative assets as required.
- Sharing responsibility for GTHS social media channels and homepage features related to operational priorities and respond to messages received through those channels in accordance with internal service standards and escalation procedures.
- Regularly update the GTHS website to reflect current operational initiatives, program information, urgent notices, seasonal campaigns,



and homepage features within assigned areas of responsibility.
- Lead internal communications related to operational updates, staff notices, and organization-wide information flows, in collaboration with leadership.
- Manage and coordinate onsite promotional and informational signage related to operational programs and services across the Animal Centre and Hospital.
- Work with media and community partners to showcase GTHS programs, services, and animals available for adoption.
- Drive adoption and program participation marketing through creative, audience-focused storytelling and promotion.
- Track and analyze monthly and quarterly marketing KPIs related to operational communications and share trends, learnings, and recommendations.
- Coordinate GTHS representation at community events, fairs, markets, and festivals that support organizational awareness and mission engagement, engaging staff and volunteers as appropriate.
- Manage assigned projects and incoming requests, flag competing deadlines early, and work with the Director of Development & Communications to confirm priorities and timelines. Uphold GTHS brand, messaging, and channel standards across operational communications.

What You’ll Bring

Education or Experience/Designation

- Education in marketing, communications, public relations, non-profit management, or a related field, with a minimum of two (2) years of direct communications or marketing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the role.

Marketing & Communications Experience:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to tell compelling stories and translate complex or quick-moving information into clear public-facing content.
- Strong background in writing, editing, and design, including development of marketing materials across multiple channels.
- Experience with social media tools including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Experience in photography, videography, graphic design, and/or video editing is an asset.
- Experience supporting service-based, community-based, or mission-driven communications in a fast-paced environment is an asset.

Technology Qualifications:
- Excellent computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress, SEO, and website content management.
- Experience using project management tools and content planning systems is an asset.

- Highly organized, self-motivated, creative, strategic, professional, and solution-oriented.
- Able to work effectively in a hybrid work environment with regular onsite collaboration.

Working Conditions The work environment inherently contains common animal-related allergens, including but not limited to fur, dander, and cleaning agents. This role may also require prolonged sitting or standing (up to 8 hours/day), computer usage for extended periods, as well as walking, bending as necessary. As such, you can perform all the essential duties of the position in such an environment. This role may be subject to various interruptions and several requests during a workday.
